My So-Called Outfit

So I am a super major huge fan of My So-Called Life. I watched it when it was on when I was in 3rd grade, and loved it. Then all through high school my dad and I scoured the internet to find the DVD release of the series, finally found it, devoured it again, and continued to love it. I started re-watching the series with my best friend and roommate Melissa during college, and continued to love it. And lately, they've been showing (and I've been DVRing) it on the Sundance Channel, and I am still head over heels in love.

That being said, I ordered my dress with 1995 in mind. A fall colored floral swing dress? Spot on. I added the olive beanie, Doc Marten-esque combat boots, and dream catcher to really seal that girly take on 1990s grunge. I was super tempted to tie a plaid shirt around my waist, but I just wasn't sure my coworkers would understand! ;)

Floral & Ikat

I'm a little bit in love with this beanie, and as you know, I'm a lot o'bit in love with pattern mixing. By keeping the pants neutral, and picking up a pop of color in my shoes that match the flowers on my hat, these patterns work just swimmingly together!

Winter Layers

Slightly obsessed with this outfit! Good ol' So Cal has graced us with chilly temperatures again, and layering is a necessity! I actually wear this coat everyday (it isn't as warm as it looks!), but felt like it really added to the ensemble and needed to be featured in today's post!

I'm wearing a whole lot of Nordstrom pieces that I bought from my friend Jenna, who advised me on ways to wear this sheer mint leopard sweater! Today's choice? Over oxblood, under chambray! Top it all off with beanie, my Petty boots, and a pretty little statement necklace, and you've got layering at its best!

Winter Evening Layers

Ahhh, the ultimate challenge for a Southern California girl: what to wear for evening when it's cold! (And seriously, it was cold. I'm talking low 30s with a chance of rain. THAT IS COLD, PEOPLE.)

Anyway, my style aesthetic came up with a very obvious answer: layers! I piled on a dress, tights, booties, sweater, jacket, and hat! I probably could have added a scarf and gloves, I swear, I was so cold! 

I wore this for an evening in LA with my mom. We had dinner at Engine Co 28 for Dine LA Week (Helloooo, delicious cheeseburger...) and then headed to the Ahmanson to see Backbeat - the story of the early years of my favorite band, The Beatles! And a good (warm) time was had by all.

Friday's Fancies: Outfit Crush

I looooove this week's Friday's Fancies theme! Why? Because thanks to Pinterest, as well as the endless blogs I follow, have caused me to develop up about a bajillion "outfit crushes!"

Do y'all know Courtney Kerr? I fell in love with her personality last year on Most Eligible Dallas, and then I fell in love with her style, thanks to the absolutely amazing outfits she posts on What Courtney Wore! She is super sassy, in life, and in fashion! Just look at this number! What better way to winterize an adorable LWD than with tough camo and studs, and bold red accessories? So adorable!

Friday's Fancies: New Year, New You!

I love this week's Friday's Fancies theme! The idea of this week's theme was to create an outfit that embodies what you hope for the new year! i.e. A bright & vibrant outfit = an exciting new year! I took it a tad more literally. My goals (not resolutions, cause who can keep those?) for 2013 are to GET ORGANIZED, to complete my elementary credential program, and to downsize & streamline my wardrobe & style!

That being said, I put together a few "teacher" outfits that I hope to get the chance to wear in the upcoming year as I transition from paint & glue-covered preschool teacher attire to a more grown-up elementary teacher attire! Truth be told, I think outfit #3 is going to have to make an appearance much sooner than next fall!

Monochromatic

Yet another thrown-together-at-7am outfit. The month of December must have been fairly haphazard for me. Anyway, I don't have a lot to say about this outfit except for this:

• Wedge high-tops pump up any outfit.
• I wore this hand-knit beanie home from my friend's apartment about 5 years ago and never gave it back. Sorry, Brian.
• Now I know why I'm more drawn to colors. I look like an empty page of a coloring book!

Bundled Up

I recall waking up on this day extremely tired, grumpy, and cold. All I wanted to do was keep warm. Well, all I wanted to do was go back to bed, but since that wasn't an option, keeping warm was important. A cute hoodie, comfy uggs, a beanie, and (mostly importantly) some bright lipstick are all it takes sometimes to jump start your day in the right direction!

I love this week's Friday's Fancies theme! Why? Because I love plaid, of course! Plaid may as well be considered a neutral in my life. I love to mix plaid with Native American-inspired pieces, and it's so fun to off-play the rugged vibe of plaid by pairing it with a little sparkle! [See outfit #1!] Or, you can showcase it like I did with a stand-out pair of boots. I've been obsessing over this affordable pair (just try to talk me out of wanting them...), and now I'm also obsessing over that (unaffordable) Mulberry cream zig-zag purse... hellooooo, beautiful! [See outfit #2!]

Friday's Fancies: Sweater Season

I have to admit, I was pretty excited when I saw that this week's Friday's Fancies theme was "Sweater Season!" If you follow my blog (or Twitter or Instagram) in even the slightest way, you know that we have been having an extended summer here in Southern California, and frankly, I'm sick of it! I seriously can't wait to be wearing cozy sweaters, scarves, and boots! This Friday's Fancies theme gave me a chance to dream about the (hopefully!) upcoming chillier months!

Black & Blue.

I'm sure that some of you, looking at this outfit, think it's freezing where I am. Well, I think that waking up to the 40s in Southern California counts as freezing! Our belated Fall finally arrived, and is basically ready to slide right into Winter, and I have to admit, I'm not mad about it! I've been ready for sweaters and boots and jackets for awhile now!

Do you all ever shop at Nordstrom? It's my favorite store - I can almost always find something fabulous there! One of my favorite things about Nordstrom is when their salespeople throw some extra things in the dressing room that they think I might like - that's how I happened upon this infinity scarf, and I'm really happy that I did! If you have a Nordy's locally, you've got to head over! If not - their website has free shipping! :)

This outfit makes me happy, and here's why:

I love this top! I saw a similar one on Luna's Facebook page, but it sold out before I could get my hands on it, so I was super excited when I found it on the Foreign Exchange website! I'm a sucker for absolutely anything leopard print, and this top is no exception - I think it's perfect!

I found this beanie for $6 on sale at Luna, and I think it's perfect with the bow and pearl details!

I fondly refer to these suede wedge platforms as my "tranny boots," and I love when I get the opportunity to wear them, considering they're just not work appropriate for peeling glue off of kids' fingers and wiping paint off of their faces. ;)

And check out that Barbie ring! I discovered it through a random search on etsy on the Insanely Sweet shop. Oh my goodness, she has some to-die-for pieces! They remind me of Tarina Tarantino, only even more fun and funky, not to mention totally affordable!
