Teacher Attire

{cardigan: old navy | tee: everlane | skirt: j. crew | boots: steve madden | necklace: luna}
Yes, it was pitch black out because that's how early I woke up. If I haven't delved into it in depth, I'm in grad school right now getting my teaching credential. Aside from various state tests and certifications I have been working through, and class Tuesday nights till 10, and a whole lot of paper writing, observation hours are also required for most of my classes! So, last week, I took the day off work to go observe an awesome school in Los Angeles. I loved my time spent there, and it was totally worth the day off!

Anyway, I figured my usual laid-back, casual, "I sit on the carpet a lot" preschool attire, so I amped it up with this skirt (that I'm obsessed with). I'm pretty excited to get to dress up a bit more in the fall when I start student teaching!

Also, my boots have become two different heights? This is a problem?

Layers: Floral, Stripes, Leather, & Military

{jacket & scarf (gift): nordstrom | shirt: victoria's secret | leggings: target | boots: steve madden | earrings: gift}
I told you I've been into layering lately! I can't help it! It's the perfect solution to chilly mornings! And believe me, it's been seriously chilly in the mornings! Anyway, stripes and florals have now become a classic combination to me, and the military look seems to pair perfectly with just about anything!

One of my dearest friends came down from San Francisco to come to my birthday dinner, and surprised me with these earrings! She's been obsessed with Chanel since I met her the first day of our sophomore year of high school (and became my tennis doubles partner!), and every time I see the double Cs, I think of her! As she wrote on my card, everyone needs a little costume jewelry!

P.S. Remind me to be more careful about wearing leggings as pants in the future...

Lavender, Oxblood, & Camo On a Birthday!

{blouse & tank: nordstrom | pants: tripp nyc | boots: shoemint}
Well, like I mentioned before, my birthday was on a Tuesday this year, so I didn't get to celebrate much on the actual day. I started my day at work (we did have a milk & cookies party), and ended it in class. Woooo-hoooo. Nevertheless, I wanted to feel pretty on my special day, so I wore the prettiest shade of lavender, and pumped it up with some heeled boots. I never wear heels at work, but these were low enough that I could still play with all the kids comfortable, but they gave me just that little extra kick to feel a tiny bit like a birthday princess! ;)

Leather, Military, Leopard, Stars & Stripes

{jacket: nordstrom | cardigan & jeans: old navy | tank & necklace (gift): forever 21 | boots: steve madden}
So, I've been super into layering lately. We hit a cold spell here in So Cal for awhile. I know you're probably scoffing at me, but 30 degrees in Southern California is COLD!Anyway, when I layer, I love to mix color, pattern, texture, shine... I've learned a lot from Stacy & Clinton over the years. ;) Pairing (faux) leather, olive military, leopard, and stars & stripes - you can't mix much more pattern than that! Plus, this top (it's actually a muscle tank) was a random purchase at the Forever 21 in Vegas. I was feeling kind of shlubby that day, so I ended up buying this top because it is craaazy soft and super comfy! Plus, in case you all didn't know, I'm a sucker for stars & stripes!

2013 Screen Actors Guild Awards - Fashion!

I caught a bit of the SAG Awards this year before my DVR so rudely interrupted my viewing, but I really enjoyed the hour that I saw! It really is such a nice awards show, since the actors are the ones who vote for the best among themselves. The fashion was here and there. There was some beautiful stand-outs. And some horrifying stand-outs. Here goes!

My Favorites
Nina: Nina's dress is one of my absolute favorites from the night! This hot pink is gorgeous, I love the strong shoulders, and it fits like a glove - perfection! // Katrina: If I ever had the opportunity to wear a fully beaded, floor length + tulle gown, this is what I would wear! (Accepting invitations now.) The beadwork on this dress is astounding, the cut is so flattering, and Katrina sparkled like a gem. I love it! // Julia: Firstly, I'm just happy that Julia Stiles still exists. I love the bead work on this dress as well, and Julia looks age-appropriate and beautiful in it! // Justin: Oh, swoon! Really, Justin can do no wrong. (Almost.) I love that he takes risks, and this look is original, well-fit, and I mean... It's Justin Timberlake. Dreamboat. // Jessica: Aside from the fact that she is mind-blowing on American Horror Story... Does this woman age? She looks amazing, and this dress is stunning! While this dress is completely age appropriate, I think it's beautiful in itself - any celeb would look amazing in this dress whether they were 20 or 70!

More Beauties
Jenna: I love this dress because it's a bit of a risk! It's really modern and youthful. The non-traditional beading is so pretty, and it really stood out as a fresh choice to me! // Naomi: Honestly, I just love her. She looks divine in this silver number, she and Liev always looks so happy, and they have the cutest kids. Enough said. // Giuliana: Such loveliness! Though, truthfully, she could use at least 20 pounds on her frame, she always look radiant. This royal blue color is perfection, and her hair perfectly undone 'do looks stunning with this dress! // Kiernan: SO cute. am I right, people?! // Jane: I really just love the color of this sparkly, peachy dress. It's like the summery version of a mermaid's tail. So pretty! // Busy: She is super preggo and still looks super fantastic. It takes a brave lady to pull off a body-conscious dress when you aren't at your fighting weight, and she rocked it! Work it, mama! // Naya: I am usually pretty iffy on an exposed chest, but this looks pretty tasteful, because the look isn't too severe. Though it's black, the silhouette is so feminine, as is her hair. She looks beautiful.

Awkward Goth
So, black is supposed to look chic, right? Well, all of these ladies managed to go in, well, the opposite direction entirely... Sorry, ladies. Angela: In theory, this dress is pretty. It's the awkward half slip smack dab in the center of the dress that ruins it. A full slip or a nude slip would have totally changed the game! // January: Girl. What the heck?! // Claire: No no no! While I can note that Claire Danes is back to weighing zero pounds two months after giving birth, I can alos note that this dress is all wrong. I am confused by this draped front (it looks like a burp cloth) as well as the odd geometric print? It doesn't go together. And I can't deal with the dark lipstick really on anybody, but especially not against Claire's fair skin! It makes her look washed out and makes her hair look yellow. Boo. Angela Chase, however, would totally dig on that shade. // Anne: I'm not into Anne Hathaway. I am also not into this dress. At all. It looks like an '80s prom dress modeled after Madonna gone wrong. Anne, please eat a sandwich, grow your hair out, and step up your fashion game! // Morena: Ladies and gentlemen, Maleficent, the Mistress of All Evil! // Jaime: Awkward cut-out. The dress looks like cheap jersey (though I am sure it is not). Meh.

Bridesmaid & Pageant Rejects
Marion: Marion has been disappointing me lately, fashion-wise. This dress looks like a Jessica McClintock reject from 1998. // Shaun: What is this color combination? It looks like a Baskin Robbins children's flavor. Plus, the long draped sash in the back is very Junior prom. // Julianna: I hate to put Julianna in the worst dressed category, but... Yikes! If Marion's dress was the Jessica McClintock reject, this is the one that actually made it to the floor. Unfortunately, this is 15 years too late. // Nancy: NANCY! WHAT IS THIS?! Not that I usually turn to Nancy O'Dell for style inspiration, but this is bad. This is like. Miss Teen USA on Mars. And to think, she once judged an episode of Project Runway. Blasphemy.

Peep Show!
These ladies were quite comfortable being boobie-licious tonight. Eek. Julianne: I seriously thought her boob was going to fall out of her dress tonight. Why don't people wear bras?! Also, what is this dress? Bad... // Michelle: This dress, in theory, is nice. And she looks nice. EXCEPT THAT I CAN SEE HER ENTIRE BOOB FROM THE SIDE! I can't handle it.

Just Bad
Idina: Is Idina pregnant? I hope so... // Kaley: Ok, so her dress is okay. I guess. Awkward length. But what is that hair?! It makes me cringe! // Ariel: I hate to pick on a child, especially one who's had such a seemingly tough year, but... bad dress. Bad, bad dress. Rapunzel Halloween costume bad... Bummer.

What do you all think? Do you agree/disagree? Who were your favorites this year? Who did I leave out?

Sunday Song: Jesse McCartney

You kiss her but her eyes don't close and then she goes out of your heart forever.

Disclaimer: this post is not a joke. If you know me in real life, or if you follow me on Twitter, you know I have a bizarre, inexplicable love for Jesse McCartney. No, I never watched Summerland. Yes, he is a bit young for me. No, I didn't start liking him until about two years ago. Somehow, I found out that he co-wrote Leona Lewis's song Bleeding Love, and from then, I was head over heels. (By the way, watch that Bleeding Love link. You won't be sorry.)

Importantly:  I feel like no one is taking my love for Jesse McCartney seriously, and I need it to be known - this is serious. Insert iPhone double heart eye smiley emoji. Bam.

Friday's Fancies: Black & White

Let me tell you, when I saw this week's Friday's Fancies theme was black & white, I was a little underwhelmed. I live for color! I very rarely wear strictly black & white! Then I remembered that when I put together some black-centered outfits a couple months ago for Friday's Fancies, and ended up really loving the looks - they were kind of badass! Some of the looks I put together for black & white turned out the same! No, I didn't quite feel badass was appropriate for the office, but look on to see what I mean. ;)

{blazer / top (similar) / pants / watch / necklace / clutch / booties}
{jacket / dress / studs / heels}
{scarf / tee / shorts (similar) / tights / boots (similar) / purse / necklace}

I would totally rock that evening look! How about you all? Do you ever wear all black & white, or do you live for color?

Birthday Celebration + A New 'Do

{sweater & skirt: asos / socks: steve madden | boots: shoe mint | necklace: luna}
Since my birthday was on a Tuesday this year, and therefore spent at work all day & in class all night, I celebrated the Friday before! After a birthday hair chop (yikes!), my friends (and some family, too!) all came together for a big dinner at Haven Gastropub! I spent my evening surrounded by my best friends, eating truffle fries, and drinking Moscow Mules! What more could a birthday girl ask for?!

Minty Musume

{top: luna | jeans: free people | boots: steve madden | necklace: c/o musume}

How absolutely beautiful is this necklace?! Based out of San Francisco, and made in Budapest, these hand-crafted pieces are heavenly! Each necklace is 100% cotton, and the perfect statement piece to top any outfit!

When I received my beautiful Musume neck piece, I knew immediately that I had to pair this stand-out with a subdued ensemble. I went with a basic black top and boots, to let this beautiful necklace shine, but I couldn't resist pairing the mint-inspired piece with my mint jeans!

Here are some of my other favorite pieces from Musume, and some classic looks I'd pair with them to showcase their beauty!

{necklace / jacket / sweater / jeans / flats}
