As If!

{shirtdress: nordstrom | sweater: romwe | leggings: asos | boots: sam edelman)

This look came together very randomly at about 7am. I've had these leggings for awhile, but they're a bit odd, because I bought them online and they came in # sizes. Leggings to me are strictly a S-M-L situation, but, alas, these were not. So I ordered wrong and they are kind of baggy. Baggy leggings. Cute. Moving on...

Oxblood, mint, sheer, distressed... there's a lot of trend going on here, but I think it all went well together! As I stared at myself in our reflective mirrors at work on the playground, I realized the outfit kind of reminded me of another gal who overloads on the trends: Ms. Cher Horowitz. Maybe it's the trend-o-rama, maybe it's the long sheer top, maybe it's the combo of white with a light blue/green shade... You be the judge.

Pattern Mixing 101

{sweater: h&m | leggings: stylemint | boots: steve madden | necklace: craft fair | watch: nordstrom}

I'm a major fan of pattern mixing, but it can be tough for some people to get on board with! The easiest form of pattern mixing? Stripes & florals! Stripes & florals are the gateway print mix. All you have to do is make sure that your stripe contains at least one of the same colors as your floral! (In this case, both black & white can be found in my floral!) Easy as pie! Anchor it down with some neutral staples, and you've got yourself the first step in Pattern Mixing 101!

Going to the Chapel

{dress: nordstrom | necklace: stitchfix | heels: shoemint | clutch: gift | watch: marc by marc jacobs}
I wore this to the lovely wedding of my beautiful friend Sarah and her now-husband Dan! Talk about the perfect day for a wedding - high 70s in the middle of February! Thank you, Southern California! I had such a fantastic time! Sarah looked stunning, the ceremony was perfect, I got to indulge in a few glasses of wine, and danced the night away with some of my best friends!

Hello!

{sweatshirt: hello apparel | chambray: forever 21 | jeans: tripp nyc via nasty gal | sneakers: converse | heart pin: bando | pink bracelet: nordstrom | gold link bracelet: derng | pink and gold link bracelet: craft fair | watch: marc by marc jacobs}

Flashback to Valentine's Day! I love few things more than a sparkly red heart, so I tend tend to enjoy a little theme dressing for V-Day! This Hello Apparel sweatshirt caught my eye awhile ago, and I finally bought it, and then I waited for this special occasion to rock it! Now I'm not sure how I'm going to stop myself from wearing it on the daily!

These pants were another long-ago purchase. I bought them over the summer, but seriously slacked on getting them hemmed. Then I finally bit the bullet and just cut off the extra foot of fabric. Sure, they may unravel, but in the heat of the moment, it seemed like the best idea. ;)

Do you "theme dress" for holidays?

2013 Academy Awards - Fashion!

I watched tonight's awards, it wasn't entirely boring, I wasn't appalled by most of the celebs, and I got to hear Barbra sing "The Way We Were." What more could I ask for?

My Favorites
Kerry: Have you all figured out that I'm a big fan of Kerry Washington's style? She always looks beautiful in flattering pieces, bright colors, and always with a hint of something special. The beading on this bodice is eclectic and unexpected, and as usual, I loved her choice!  // Naomi: Oh gosh. She is just beautiful. This is the right way to wear sparkle! The dress fits perfectly, it's a stand-out without being over-the-top, and the one-shoulder neckline is unique and unexpected. Flawless! // Amy: I'm not usually a fan of Amy's choices, because they usually bore me to tears, but there was something special about this dress. The color was simple, but interesting, and I just loved this statement ballgown skirt and ruffled train. Pretty pretty princess. // Charlize: Holy crap. Should we all just give up now? If she can look this off-the-charts gorgeous without hair, what hope is there for the rest of us?! This peplum outfit accentuated her figure in just the right way. She blew me away!

More Good Looks
Kristen: I can't believe I'm saying this, but I love what Kristen Stewart is wearing. The ecru color is really pretty, as is the lace detailing and light ruffles. Her posture is excused tonight since she was on crutches. I can't say the same for her hair.  // Jennifer: She's so dreamy. The cut and fabric were classic, but not boring, and she just looked stunning! (Also, I'm sorry she tripped, but how sweet was it when Hugh Jackman ran up to give her a hand?!) // Stacy: Another person I'm usually less than pleased with, but this dress is gorgeous. Kind of a mix between rocker chains and deco detailing. I'm digging it. (Except maybe eat something, girl...)

Not So Good...
Salma: This looks like she could have played the princess in Coming to America. It's like a weird Princess Jasmine look gone awry... // Zoe: Almost always on my worst-dressed. The extreme bodice detailing? Not great. Add on that weird slit and awkward ombre hem? Worse. The bow? Awful. THE BELT? Complete failure. Yikes. // Amanda: I'm frowning. This is sort of like geisha kimono gone wrong. Boring color and print. Ill-fitting (loose in the bust, too tight in the back). Meh. // Anne: Oh, Anne. I knew I would hate your outfit tonight. I just didn't know I'd have the pleasure of hating it this much. 1990s prom dress without a bra. Why? Why would anyone ever allow her to wear this? Why would she allow herself?! WHY?! I NEED AN EXPLANATION FOR THIS!

Beardage
Chris: This stubble reminds me of the "beard" my Shave-n-Fun Ken Doll used to grow... I'm not sure if that's a compliment or not, but hey, it's Chris Pine. Hard to ruin that face. // George: I've never met a beard I didn't like. Well, almost... To quote Ms. Carrie Bradshaw, "Clooney's like a Chanel suit... he never goes out of style." Amen, sister girl. // P.S. This would have been dedicated to more than beards had I been able to find a photo of Paul Epworth's handsome hairdo tonight. But alas, google failed me...

What do you all think? Do you agree/disagree? Who were your favorites this year? Who did I leave out?

Sunday Song: The Echo Friendly

 I want to stay up late, walking the streets alone, thinking of you till dawn.

I discovered this song when they played it on GIRLS last season, and I've probably listened to it every day since. Basically, it's just got a super soothing sound, an easy beat to bob along with, and I love listening!

Friday's Fancies: Red Carpet Ready

{outfit 1: earrings / clutch / heels / dress | outfit 2: dress / earrings / clutch (similar) / heels}
In honor of the Academy Awards this Sunday, this week's Friday's Fancies theme is Red Carpet Ready! I do my frequent commentary on awards show fashion, so I was pretty excited for this theme. Turns out, though, "dressing" for the red carpet is harder than I realized! I went with two different looks for you: classic with perfect fit, and bright color impact!

Outfit 1: Classic, all the way. Nothing wows me on the red carpet like a perfectly fit black number! Keeping it classic with strappy sandals and chandelier earrings is nice, but I liked the idea of throwing in some studs on the shoes and a deco purse - so cute!

Outfit 2: I found this dress and loved it instantly - the color is beautiful, and I liked the Grecian style. But then I was stumped - I wasn't sure what to pair with this number to keep it evening, but still fun! I went with a similarly Grecian-inspired gladiator heel, brought another little pop of color with the turquoise impact, and went statement with this super cool fringed leather clutch! (It looks just like feathers, doesn't it?!)

I think if I were headed to such a swanky event, I'd have to go with outfit #1! Which outfit would you choose?

(Don't forget to check back Sunday night for my red carpet round-up of the Oscars fashion this year!)

Chevron + Leather & Suede

{dress: threadsence | jacket & leggings (as tights): target | boots: steve madden | necklace: ily couture | scarf (in hand): nordstrom}
It was super cold and windy! Can you tell?! I wore this out to dinner and to the ballet with my mom. Yes, the ballet. So swanky, right? (I hated it, we left at intermission. Don't judge me.)

It had rained all day, and we thought we were in the clear - until we came out of dinner and it was POURING! We ran to and from our car and into the ballet - but this outfit was not a good choice for a rainy day! I guess I should have added a hat. ;)

Aside from being rained on and freezing, I loved  this outfit! I forgot about these boots, so I was excited to rediscover them, and I love this dress, so I was glad I got another chance to wear it! Ta-da!

Winter Layers

{hat: forever 21 | necklace, sweater, chambray, tank: nordstrom | coat: bb dakota | leggings: target or old navy (can't remember/differentiate/tell the difference) | boots: sam edelman}
Slightly obsessed with this outfit! Good ol' So Cal has graced us with chilly temperatures again, and layering is a necessity! I actually wear this coat everyday (it isn't as warm as it looks!), but felt like it really added to the ensemble and needed to be featured in today's post!

I'm wearing a whole lot of Nordstrom pieces that I bought from my friend Jenna, who advised me on ways to wear this sheer mint leopard sweater! Today's choice? Over oxblood, under chambray! Top it all off with beanie, my Petty boots, and a pretty little statement necklace, and you've got layering at its best!
