Friday's Fancies: Work Wear

{watch / bracelet / boots / earrings / skirt / top / tote}
Since starting student teaching, I have come to a few conclusions about my work wear:
1. I feel most "teacher-y" in a pencil skirt!
2. I feel most comfortable throughout the day in boots!
3. There are few accessories more important on a school day than a watch and a roomy carry-all tote!

I have also come to three other important conclusions regarding the above said:
1. It is sort of exhausting to wear pencil skirts everyday.
2. I have already tortured my feet in heels too many times and am filled with regret regarding this decision.
3. These are the only things I never stray from, and the advil, lotion, and hand sanitizer in my purse all thank me for it, along with the 6-year-olds who constantly ask me how many minutes are left till recess.

What's your go-to work wear look?

School Spirit

{sweater: target | jeans: gap | sandals: urban outfitters}
The ever-growing collection of royal blue pieces in my wardrobe (Thank you, spur-of-the-moment Target purchases!) is certainly paying off for school spirit Fridays at work! It's really a shame that I can't be entered in the spirit raffles to win pizza and ice cream with the principal. ;)

I almost never wear my hair up, but apparently that was the plan on the morning after my 5-hour grad seminar! I actually think this little side pony made this classic but casual outfit feel a little more dressed up... I'll need to try my hand at some more creative hairstyles in the near future!

Minty Fresh

{dress: forever 21 (similar) (similar) | cardigan: old navy | sandals: old navy (similar)}
I feel like I kind of missed the mark on styling this. It was another random outfit choice at 6am kind of morning,and I didn't add any fun statement pieces because I was thinking the studded shoulders were a big enough statement. Except that I don't think the sun ever came out on the day that I wore this, so I wore the cardigan all day, so I just looked kinda boring. A statement necklace sure would have done this outfit good...

In my current no-paycheck, shopping-fast state of being, I put together a statement necklace wish list to torture myself. Whaddya think? Which one is your fave?

Casual Classic

{tee: target (similar) | belt: target | jeans: target | sneakers: converse | purse: rebecca taylor (similar) | sunglasses: juicy couture}
This is one of the comfiest outfits I've probably ever worn. From the easy tee to the boyfriend jeans to the sneakz, what could have been better? I may have (definitely did) even worn this 2 days in a row because it was so easy, simple, and casual classic! From dinner to breakfast to lunch to a night out at the Hollywood Bowl, this ensemble certainly held up! After dressing up and ignoring my aching feet Monday-Friday, weekends are reserved for sandals, sneakers, and all things comfy!

Here are some more ideas to rock a casual look for the weekend!

{t-shirt / jeans / purse / watch / sneakers}

{hat / belt / purse / jeans / t-shirt/ sneakers}

{studded cuff / black cuff / leopard cuff / purse / t-shirt / jeans / sneakers}
What is your go-to casual weekend attire?

Double Dose of Leopard

{dress: forever 21 (similar) (similar) (similar) | cardigan: old navy (similar) | necklace: nordstrom (similar) | boots: sam edelman}
One result of my early mornings and late afternoons and evening plans aka my super busy schedule lately? Swiftly (and often poorly) put-together outfits! This was one random 6am idea that I thought turned out well, however! This dress is simple and comfortable, yet flattering, and leopard is my go-to print to pump up any look a little bit. (I added a double dose this time, so what could go wrong?!) Plus, these Sam Edelman Petty boots never cease to amaze me with their adorableness, comfort level, and most importantly, versatility!

What do you think? Was my last-minute outfit a success?!

Friday's Fancies: Fall Wish List

I have to admit, whenever I post a wish list or gift guide on the blog, it would usually be more appropriately named "things I am going to end up buying." However, this time around, considering the fact that I'm knee-deep in student teaching (also known as an elongated unpaid internship) and have no foreseeable paychecks coming my way, this right here is a bonafide wish list!

1. Overalls - Retro? Yes. Silly? Slightly. Guaranteed to be comfortable? Definitely! Fairly certain to make me look dumpy? Yes ma'am. (Still want 'em!)

2. Neutral sandals - I feel like everyone needs the perfect pair of neutral (black, brown or nude) sandals in their wardrobe, and these two-toned babies may be the best of both worlds!

3. Blue dress -The elementary school I'm student teaching at has "spirit" Fridays - all of the students and teachers are supposed to wear gray or royal blue, and I am absolutely in the market for a royal blue dress! (Plus, it's one of my favorite colors to wear!)

4. Pastel blue sweater - Can you tell I'm in a blue mood lately? I'm a sucker for super-soft, feminine, and versatile pastel sweaters, and this sky blue piece is no exception!

5. Nude heels - Much like the neutral sandal, a nude heel is a wardrobe staple! I am not a fan of patent nude pumps, and the "blush"-colored heel I have is pretty uncomfortable, so I've been lusting over this classic-cut, pretty nude suede pair!

6. Utility jacket - Though fall weather has just barely reared its head here in Southern California, I am absolutely smitten with this utility jacket! The navy/olive combo is super versatile, and I dig the slim, elongated fit! I'd love to have this "fall" coat - and I'm fairly certain it could take me through an Orange County winter!

What's on your wish list for fall?

Minimalist Maxi

{shirt: target (similar) | skirt: target | heels: kohl's (similar)}
This outfit is out of my element as it is completely devoid of color! However, there is something so classic and professional about a black & white ensemble, especially when it includes a crisp button-down! I went simple on this day, and put together a few outfits to show you how you can do the same! Pair your black and white with neutral accessories, and you're ready to go with a versatile and comfortable look!

{purse / pants / shirt / heels / necklace / watch}

{necklace / rings / bracelet / tee / booties / skirt}

{hat / flats / sweater / shorts / tote}
Which is your favorite neutral look? I'm pretty partial to that embroidered baseball cap, myself!

"You look much prettier today than you did yesterday!"

{shirt: nordstrom (similar) | skirt: forever 21 | socks: forever 21 (similar) | boots: steve madden (similar) (similar)| necklace: c/o purple paparazzi}
I go back and forth every day between wanting to get super dressed up for work and wanting to wear jeans (or shorts -gasp!) like most of the rest of the staff. I love the look of a dressed-up teacher, but let's be honest, the comfort of casual work wear makes my feet so happy. However, compliments from 6-year-olds make all the difference, and when I walked up to greet my class in this outfit, I elicited "wows" and gasps and "you look so pretty!" from a bunch of the little girls. I also had the pleasure of receiving this "compliment" - "You look much prettier today than you did yesterday!" Thank you?

Polka Dots + Purple Pants

{blazer: alloy (similar) | top: foreign exchange (similar) | pants: old navy (similar) | flats: breckelles via amazon | necklace: popbasic (similar)}
This outfit is a little odd to me, as it is kind of a business-casual combo. The lavender jeans don't exactly scream "professional," but paired with this structured blazer and ladylike flats, they seem to work for the office! (Or in my case, the classroom!) It was kind of a double monochromatic look, split at the hips. Pastels below the waist, navy up top. All-in-all, this look is a little bipolar. Oh well... we all have to experiment with our fashion sometimes!

Friday's Fancies: Friday Night Lights

{necklace / t-shirt / purse / jeans / watch / boots / football}
So, let me be honest. I've never cared about any athletic team more than I've cared about the Dillon Panthers. Still, on the rare occasion that I do attend a sporting event (usually Angel games, in my case), I try to root root root for the home team while still looking cute! Wear your gear (whether it be a tee, jersey, or team colors), pair it with classic comfy jeans and a sensible shoe (hah!), and accessorize accordingly! Show your spirit while you show your style!

Now, let's all just take a moment to bask in the beauty that is Tim Riggins, and remind ourselves: Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose. TEXAS FOREVER.
