Neon & Navy + 3 Words That Sum Up My Style!

{blazer: alloy (similar) | shirt: nordstrom | skirt: target | flats: brooks brothers (similar) | watch: urban outfitters}
Now this is an outfit I feel like myself in! A touch of comfort, a touch of trendy, a touch of prep. That's me!

Comfort: A classic chambray shirt - I have a few too many accumulating in my closet, but let's be honest - they're a very important staple in my closet!
Trendy: It's always fun to incorporate trends (like NEON!) in fun, inexpensive ways. Thank you, Target!
Prep: I think this is where modern J. Crew comes into play! How could I resist this navy blazer with gold buttons years ago? Plus, I can never resist a sweet bow - who knew Brooks Brothers would ever be on my fashion radar?!

What three words sum up your style?

First Lady

{coat: kohl's (similar) | sweater: forever 21 | jeans: forever 21 | flats: tory burch | pearl necklace: forever 21 (similar) | monogram: baublebar | watch: nordstrom (similar)}
So, I wasn't exactly feeling like myself when I put this outfit on. Yes, I wear pearls. Yes, I love monograms. Yes, I go through stages when I live in my Tory Burch flats. But something about this outfit was much more preppy and classic than my usual style, right down to the hairdo. (I copied this hairdo from Hayden Panettiere's character on Nashville, by the way. What do you think?)

Anyway, when I got to work, I was feeling slightly Hyannis Port until my coworker laid this one on me: "You look like Barbara Bush." Now, I don't know about you, but I don't know any world in which this is a compliment. Now, I'm not knocking all of her great work with as First Lady or anything, but let's get real: does anyone want to hear that they look like an 87-year-old woman? No. No they do not.

That'll teach me to wear this particular combination ever again...

Sunday Song: One Republic

I was a lonely soul, but that's the old me.
I haven't been a major One Republic fan, ever since a friend of mine sang "Apologize" to me about 50,000x in a row at 3am one night my Sophomore year of college. However, when I heard this song a few months ago, I fell in love. It's so positive, so uplifting, and just so nice & catchy! Plus, I added it to my running playlist and it's great motivation for a speed pump-up! I dare you not to dance and clap along! ;)

Friday's Fancies: April Showers

{umbrella / earrings / watch / purse / leggings / shirt / boots / anorak}
Following perfectly in suit with my rainy day post yesterday, this week's Friday's Fancies theme is April Showers! My go-tos for a rainy day? Hunter wellies, a sassy umbrella, no-fuss jewelry, and comfy clothes! Pump up the volume a touch by trading in your classic black leggings for a weather-resistant leather (or pleather!) pair. Don't forget your hood!

Rainy Days & Lost Umbrellas

{sweater: forever 21 | blouse: urban outfitters (similar) | jeans: justfab | boots: steve madden}
Ah, the random April shower. I swear, weather in Southern California has been totally wack-o lately! We go from 90 degrees to 50 and windy to 60 and raining... enough, already, mother nature! Get a grip!

I just couldn't bear to wear a hood or rain coat this day! I went for my new graphic sweater (J.Crew-esque, on the cheap from F21!), layered it over my polka dots, and kept it basic black on the bottom half. Also, as I took these photos, I really regretted "losing" my pink gingham umbrella. The story? I brought it to the Grouplove concert, and they wouldn't let me bring it in! Not even folded up into my purse! So they had everyone leave them outside of the venue - and when I walked out, the umbrellas had been DUMPED! So rude!

Anyway... I think I need to invest in a new cute umbrella! Here are a few adorable options! (Seriously, though, that clear Hunter bubble umbrella? I need it!)

Pink + Paisley

{dress: lulu's | blazer: forever 21 (similar) | necklace: bauble bar | booties: forever 21 (similar)}
I've had this blazer for quite awhile, but I've only ever worn it once! The bright color and the length are challenging for me! I don't wear a lot of pink, so I was a little clueless about what to pair this with, and because I'm fairly short, this longer, mid-thigh length makes me feel even shorter when paired with the wrong proportions!

Still, I think these pieces worked well together! I picked up on the hints of pink in this bright paisley print dress, and then topped it with this statement necklace. This necklace may have been a bit much on top of the pop of color and busy print, and truth be told, the tortoise shell was a bit less obvious and matter than I expected, but I think it was a fun touch.

How do you incorporate pops of color into your looks?

Hello again!

{sweatshirt: hello apparel | skirt: i forgot! (similar) | belt: vintage via urban renewal via urban outfitters (similar) | boots: sam edelman}
I'm back from Coachella, totally exhausted, and ready to catch up on some outfits photos from last week - but don't worry - I'll be starting my Coachella recaps next week!

My biggest dilemma when it comes to graphic tees/sweatshirts? Remixing them to make them feel original each time! I feel like certain graphics, especially this "hello" sweatshirt, are so identifiable and unique that making them feel fresh each time can be a challenge. I think the solution is keeping your patterns fun, mixing your accessories, and finding new ways to wear your piece (like a half-tuck into a belt!).

How do you make your graphic prints feel new?

Friday's Fancies: Nice & Neon

This week's Friday's Fancies theme couldn't have come at a better time! Neon is a trend I was terrified of for awhile, but am finally getting on board with. I've found that the key to wearing BRIGHTS is to balance it out with classics and neutrals!

{jeans / sweater / heels / necklace / watch / polish}
I think that HOT pink is best complimented by classic black & white! You can pump up the volume a touch with some awesome printed jeans, keeping your accessories classic but bold. If you're dying for another pop of color, try it on your nails!
{blazer / tee / necklace / studs / purse / heels / skirt}
I know I basically just wore this outfit at Lucky FABB, but I couldn't resist reminding you all to wear something similar, too! I've dubbed camo the "new neutral," so pairing this NEON skirt with camo and a classic black blazer is perfect! I kept the jewelry cohesive but tough, and opted for another pop with this hot pink saddle bag!

Are you on board with the neon trend?

3 Looks You Can Rock at Coachella!

So, I know everyone's been posting their Coachella outfits for the past week, but I'm off to the desert for the festival this weekend, so I wanted to share some of my outfit inspiration, and hopefully inspire you while I'm at it!

{bracelets: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 | tank | boots | cutoffs | purse}
So, Coachella is located in Indio, which is right near Palm Springs. It goes without saying - it is going to be HOT this weekend! (High 90s, hopefully with some cooler nights if we're lucky!) Keeping cool and comfortable is so important for long festival days! Tanks and cutoffs are a must! I also learned my first year that close-toed shoes are a must, too - unless you want miles of dirt coating your feet and sandals! P.S. Stacks and stacks of bracelets are a fun way to accessorize - and take attention away from the hideous festival wristbands...

{hat | necklace | dress | purse | rings: 1, 2, 3 (similar) | boots}
Another optimal way to stay cool? A hat and easy maxi dress! Apart from dousing yourself in sunscreen (don't forget!), keeping your head covered and your face shaded will keep your comfort level high! I also love this bag because it's roomy (gotta keep a hold on your water bottle & a cover-up in case it gets chilly at night), and has a lot of pockets for packing your business cards, chapsticks, etc! (P.S. It's on sale right now for $49.95 - snatch this beauty up!) Dainty rings and a long turquoise necklace are the perfect additions to this casual, simple outfit.

{crown | necklace | tank | purse | cutoffs | booties}
I know, I know, the floral crown at Coachella has been done. But, you know what I say? When in Rome! How often do you have the perfect occasion to wear a flower crown? Carpe diem! Balancing the girly crown with a graphic tank, tough cutoffs, studs, and adorable booties comprise the perfect outfit for that desert sun!

Are any of you going to Coachella this weekend? Who are you looking forward to seeing? I can't wait to see Red Hot Chili Peppers, Passion Pit, Tegan & Sara, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the Postal Service, Vampire Weekend, and more!

I am so excited to enjoy some sunshine, spend time with my gal pals, and enjoy some amazing live music! You can follow along with my festival fun via my Instagram (@dailydaniblog)!

Floral & Chambray Layers

{dress: asos (similar) | chambray: target | belt: target | boots: sam edelman | watch: marc by marc jacobs}
First of all, let me apologize: my face looks seriously miserable in most of these photos. I swear I wasn't. Aside from my typical 7am mood, nothing was out of the ordinary, except that I apparently decided to frown in every photo. Oops.

Moving on...

I love this floral dress! It was perfect to layer over one of my chambrays, because it's thin and the "skater" style of the skirt is so flowy! I really wanted to add a necklace to this look, but I literally could not wrap my head around which one looked right upon waking. I think I tried on 5, and then gave up. Oh well. Luckily, the floral made up for the lack of gems around my neck! (I think?!)
