Time to report on Coachella Day 1! Day 1 was the coolest day, at a mild 94 degrees. (Ha!) We arrived at about 11am, had a few tailgate cocktails, and headed into the tent! First stop: 12th Planet.

I'm not really into Electric Dance Music, but it's Melissa's fave, so we checked out this DJ. I enjoyed dancing to him a lot - he put on a really good show! We also hung around for some of Skrillex, but we didn't stay for the whole thing because that tent got very toasty, so we headed to the H&M Water Conscious Tent for some A/C and water!

Next we took a little snooze in the sunshine and then watched Lauryn Hill's set!

She was awesome! I've been a big Lauryn Hill fan since The Fugees, so I was super excited to hear her! When she sang "Everything is Everything," I didn't think I could get happier... until she started singing The Fugees' "Ready Or Not!" It was awesome!

After Lauryn Hill, we checked out Sleigh Bells.

I'm only a very recent Sleigh Bells fan, so I wasn't super familiar with everything I heard, but they put on a really good show! We agreed they'd be a great artist to see in a smaller venue!

My highlight of the night was Brandon Flowers!

He played a ton of sons from his album, plus a fantastic cover of "Bette Davis Eyes!" At the end of his set, he played a few Killers songs, which got the entire crowd (including myself) singing along and super happy! He was so happy to be on stage and very humble. I knew he was incredibly talented, but he definitely personified this through an amazing live performance! Plus, let's all admit how dreamy he is! I wish my last name were Flowers, for a variety of reasons.

We finished our night off with The Black Keys. I was so excited to hear "Howlin' For You!" They were good, but they're another artist I would definitely like to see in a smaller venue. I was a little unsure about the staging/lineup that Coachella put together this year - I would have put some artists on smaller stages or in earlier time slots, but I suppose that's just my opinion! Alas, Day 1 was lovely. I saw some great artists, and was ready to get some rest for Day 2!

  3. I am really glad you gave Sleigh Bells a good review. I had read that their show wasn't all that great which made me sad. I am definitely looking forward to checking them out at Bonnaroo!
