Fall Trends

I've been seeing a lot of bloggers post about fall trends, and to tell you the truth, I've been asking what's the big deal? about a lot of them... Until I realized the best part about them: I already own them all! A lot a the major fall trends are really just the major emergence of little details we've all been subtly mixing into our outfits over the past year! And with that, I bring you... Oxblood, Military, & Leather...

Oxblood, otherwise known as burgundy or maroon if you aren't super creepy, is probably the "fall-iest" of the fall trends. Dark, rich colors definitely evoke a sense of autumn, and it can basically be worn as a neutral! It goes really well with all textures and patterns, as well as with lots of other shades - I especially like the pop of a pastel or or rich jewel tone against this deep fall shade!

The Military look has been creeping its way back into fashion after being expelled for bad behavior in the 90s. Luckily, it's back with a far more stylish vengeance! From blouses to skinny cargos to awesome fitted utility jackets with feminine details, the military look is the ultimate neutral! It's also the perfect balance to ultra-feminine styles. By the way, why not throw a bit of camo print into your look while you're at it? Your inner 12-year-old will thank you. Or, at least, my inner 12-year-old will thank you.

Leather is, yet another, awesome cold-weather neutral. Leather can be so versatile and found in so many different colors, styles, pieces, and prices! You can be daring and go leather from head to toe or throw on a major statement piece, or you can keep it simple and just go with a simple accessory! Either way, mix leather with any other fabric, print, or color, and you've instantly upped your level of bad-ass-ocity.

Girly/Boy-y

I love the juxtaposition of menswear details with super feminine ones. Aka menswear oxfords, cargo pants, and an oversized watch with a light knit and frilly sheer blouse. Oh, and a pink geode necklace. But who doesn't love a geode?

This was a total last-minute thrown-together morning-of outfit, and I totally love it! I may have mentioned this before, but I am so not a morning person! I tend to hit snooze 2-5x every morning, and am always rushing to get dressed! I have been planning my outfits ahead of time for the past year or so, but lately it's been tough because the weather has been so bipolar! Low 60s all last week, pouring rain this weekend, followed by high 70s this week? RiDONKulous! Hmph.

I tend to just want to be super comfy at work, but I don't want to look like a slob! This outfit began as a simple t-shirt and utility pants, and became an actual look! I love how a blazer can take a totally casual outfit and give it just the right amount of polish! Plus, never underestimate accessories! I must have had a few extra minutes this morning, because I actually accessorized! A good arm party can just jingle-jangle and make me smile all day!

Day 3 in Portlandia

This post is super photo-heavy! Hope y'all don't mind! :) Today, we went on a tour of Multnomah Falls and the Bonneville Lock & Dam. The waterfalls and scenery were so stunning! It also totally cooled down today, which was magical. Picking up where I left off, back to updated '90s grunge with faded florals + cargo pants. ;) Accented by accessory overload! I totally wanted to jump into the waterfalls with my Salt Water sandals!

One of my mom's & my favorite parts about sightseeing? The gift shops, of course. I got this super cool Native American-inspired copper cuff. Then I realized (and fear) that it may be some sort of fertility"good luck charm." You be the judge...

Last but not least, I cannot believe I forgot to mention that we went to Voo-Doo Donuts on our first night here... Holy guacamole, or shall I just say, holy DONUTS. I got the Cap'n Crunch one!

We leave tomorrow to go back to reality. Sigh. Portland, you've been good to me once again!

These are all the pictures I was able to take yesterday before my camera died! I didn't take any photos of my outfit today, because I wasn't too into it. I guess that's a good thing, since at work today, I was vomited on. All over my body. Soaked through to my underwear. (Too much information, I know, but so necessary for dramatic effect.) I don't think you need anymore details.

Juxtaposition.

Here I go again, juxtaposing girly with more utilitarian. And here I go again, using a form of the word juxtapose. I need to remember to use that word more often. Just say it out loud: jux-ta-pose. Beautiful.

Everybody Everywear: Florals!

I love Everybody Everywear challenges! Floral is my favorite so far - because I love florals! I had a lot to choose from, but I knew immediately I wanted to wear this American Apparel "big shirt." It's so comfy, I love the print, and I think it's pretty, too!

I wanted to mix it with these army cargo pants for a mild version of a tough-sweet combo, and I think I worked that out pretty well.

Also, these snakeskin sandal flats are my new favorites! (Or, as one of my 4-year-olds and I decided to refer to them as, my "dragon skin" shoes.)

Plus, this dreamcatcher necklace is one of my absolute favorites lately, for an obvious reason - my love of feathers and all things Native American!

Well, this is what I looked like before my flu kicked in. Triple bun inspiration via Ashley and Jo! This hairdo received backhanded compliments along the lines of "Princess Lea," but whatever. I dug it! P.S. Sea foam green is my most favorite of all colors. Sigh.

Sad news for me, my fun-filled weekend was replaced by spending 48 hours in bed hopped up in a pharmacy-load of meds. Sad news for you, I didn't get to wear the 2 other fun-tastic outfits I had planned to wear during said fun-filled weekend. Sigh.

I'll bet that if I had tiger blood, I'd never get the flu... Sigh.
