Then I started to look at the rest of my wardrobe, and realized that a good amount of the wardrobe I've been building since I began blogging is highly remixable! Sure, I still have those random pieces that just don't fit in (and maybe never will) - oversized Hawaiian shirtdress, I'm talking to you - but for the most part, with every closet purge and every new purchase, my wardrobe is becoming highly functional!
When I buy clothing now, I think a lot harder about it. I don't just buy some wild print if I can't think of how I'm going to wear it with the rest of my clothes. I buy a lot more neutral and classic pieces because I know that I can remix them with the more unique pieces that I already do have. I'm not saying that a bunny rabbit print crop top won't jump out at me one day (imaginative, I know), but I am saying, I will have a much stronger urge to avoid it. ;)
You are so wise.
ReplyDeleteand purdy,
The denim on denim is so cute with the maroon pants, Dani! I think it's awesome that your wardrobe has become so remixable. I used to just buy something if I liked it, and then I'd bring it home and realize it went with just 1 thing in my closet. Now I'm trying to make a conscious effort to only buy things that will match with my other pieces!

I don't blame you for backing out. Maybe come up with your own concept.. How about a 7X7 or 14X14. a 30 X 30 seems like too big of a commitment to me.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of The Help...what is it she says?
ReplyDeleteYou is smart, you is kind, you is important...?
I had the same issue with the 30x30 when I did it. It just aggravated me.
ReplyDeleteLove it! You do have a fabulous and versatile closet. Denim on denim looks pretty snazzy here, broken up by your red pants.
ReplyDeleteLove the denim on denim! great look :)

Yay for you being able to remix it without really trying! I totally have found that I am finally doing the same thing....really thinking through the possiblities of a purchase before I make it. And denim always works.
