I'm so excited to be featuring Sharon of The Tiny Heart here on The Daily Dani! Sharon is one of my favorite followers - her comments on my posts make my day! :) Not to mention, she's absolutely adorable!
3 words to describe your personal style?
casual, affordable, preppy
What would you consider the 5 essential items to a fashionable wardrobe?
1) Lightweight scarves. You can tie them in so many different ways, you can belt them, and you can wear them all year round! 2) Skinny belts. They're great for giving a waist to a baggy dress or top, dressing up a cardigan, or giving a pop of color to your jeans/pants. 3) Blazers/Jackets. They're perfect for a professional work look paired with a skirt, they can be dressed up with skinny jeans and heels for night, and worn as a casual look with jeans and a tee. 4) Button down shirts. They're great for layering and they will never go out of style. 5) Pencil skirts. They're another classic piece that can instantly make you chic at the office.
Here in Southern California, we don't exactly get true "seasons." How does seasonal weather affect your wardrobe choices?
I live at the Jersey shore. We've had a mild winter this year, but it can get freezing cold here. To keep warm in winter, I like to wear layers. Since there's such extremes in temperatures, I try to buy items that I can wear all year round to get the most mileage out of them. I'll wear my summer dresses in fall in winter with a warmer cardigan, tights, and boots. I'll also take my summer tanks/camis and wear them as a shell under a blazer or cardigan.
Who are your favorite bloggers, and why?
I follow so many blogs and the list is growing by the day! Of course I love reading The Daily Dani! Kendi Everyday is another one of my favorites. I really admire how Kendi turned her blog into a business and now owns her own clothing store, which is basically my blogging dream. Marion from Marionberry Style is always beautifully pulled together and her stories about her job as a school psychologist crack me up. I also enjoy reading Respect the Shoes. Lisa has an amazing sense of style and she is able to poke fun at herself, which is refreshing to read. I also love Tara from Mix and Match Fashion. She's a fellow Jersey girl and has the most beautiful office attire.
As a petite girl, what are some of the major challenges in dressing for your body type, and what are your tips to working against them?
I'm 4'10", which poses quite the challenge in finding clothes that fit. My biggest issue is with pants, which are always too long even if they are petite length. My tips for petites are to find a tailor and make minor alterations to your clothes for a better fit. (My mom sews and growing up she'd always hem my pants!). Another one of my secrets is to shop kids clothes. Brands like J Crew, H&M, and Abercrombie & Fitch all have kids clothing lines and you can often find the same pieces as the womens counterparts (and for much cheaper!). Lastly, always try stuff on in the dressing room! Every brand runs differently, so make sure you try it on your body instead of just relying on the tag.
One trend I'm dying to try is peplum skirts and dresses! I love the ladylike feel of them. In a bold color, they'll be the perfect addition to my spring wardrobe!
I feel most myself when I’m wearing: Jeans! Even though I enjoy getting all dressed up, what's comfier than putting on your favorite pair of jeans?
Go say hi to Sharon over at The Tiny Heart, and check out some more of her lovely outfits!
