Classic Pink Pop

So, I kind of teeter-totter between trying to be "super professional" and "I don't want to be super professional" at work these days. As I've mentioned before, most of the teachers at the school dress quite casually, more casual than even my most casual, to be honest. So, sometimes, when I "dress up" (i.e. wear dress pants), I feel like a stuffy fuddy-duddy! However, in this case, throwing in this pop of color (remember when that term was a fashion "thing?") in BRIGHT PINK made me feel a little more relateable, a little more fun, and a lot more Barbie. ;)

You're Gonna Hear Me Roar

{jacket: j. crew | tee: ann taylor (similar) | skirt: urban outfitters (similar) | shoes: tory burch | watch: marc by marc jacobs}
I've had this tee and this skirt for a long time and haven't worn either more than once or twice, so I'm glad I have the opportunity to dress up a bit more at work this year!  Leopard is my favorite print, so I fell in love with this tee at first sight! Paired with some classic and comfy basics, this tee got to be a stand-out and make a little noise of its own!

First Lady

{coat: kohl's (similar) | sweater: forever 21 | jeans: forever 21 | flats: tory burch | pearl necklace: forever 21 (similar) | monogram: baublebar | watch: nordstrom (similar)}
So, I wasn't exactly feeling like myself when I put this outfit on. Yes, I wear pearls. Yes, I love monograms. Yes, I go through stages when I live in my Tory Burch flats. But something about this outfit was much more preppy and classic than my usual style, right down to the hairdo. (I copied this hairdo from Hayden Panettiere's character on Nashville, by the way. What do you think?)

Anyway, when I got to work, I was feeling slightly Hyannis Port until my coworker laid this one on me: "You look like Barbara Bush." Now, I don't know about you, but I don't know any world in which this is a compliment. Now, I'm not knocking all of her great work with as First Lady or anything, but let's get real: does anyone want to hear that they look like an 87-year-old woman? No. No they do not.

That'll teach me to wear this particular combination ever again...

Friday's Fancies: Pretty in Pastels

{sweater / flats / jeans / necklace / purse}
This week's Friday's Fancies theme is pastels! I used to loathe pastels, but as I've grown up, I've grown from viewing them as little girl/babyish into thinking of them as simply delicate and feminine. By pairing lovely pastels (lavender, baby pink, & mellow yellow) with a deeper anchor piece (like these oxblood jeans!) and a striking accessory (like this tough, Aztec-inspired pendant), and you're good to go, in a grown-up way!

How do you feel about pastels?

Stars on Stars / Print on Print

{sweater: asos | blouse: romwe | jeans: urban outfitters | flats: tory burch | necklace: forever 21}
Yay, stars! I wore this sweater on my birthday but haven't worn it since! When I decided to pull this bad boy out again for the chillier days we've been getting around these parts, I knew I wanted to keep it classic black & white and layer it with another top, and then I remembered this star print blouse! I love a print on print look just as much as I like print mixing! As long as you keep your colors similar and keep your print scale balanced, print on print is a fun and easy way to add a little interest to your ensemble!

Here are some more ways you can make print on print work for you!

{sweater | necklace | platforms | skirt}

{blazer | shirt (similar) | tote | watch | booties | skirt}

What do you think? Are you willing to give print on print a try?

I've Gone Batty!

{blazer & jeans: forever 21 | t-shirt: asos | flats: tory burch | necklace: luna}
When I saw this tee online a few months ago, I fell in love! Yes, it was on sale. Yes, it was post-Halloween, yes I got a lot of flack at work for not owning it or wearing it on Halloween. But alas. I love the print and the cut. I think this outfit is a good example of how you can dress up a simple t-shirt! By adding a blazer, a sparkly necklace, and some classic flats, a t-shirt can go from blah to... batty!

"Fancy"

{jacket: j. crew | dress & watch: nordstrom | leggings: target | flats: tory burch | chain necklace: boutique | geode necklace: luna}
I really liked this outfit. Not sure why. Nothing really stood out about it, but I felt like it was a good combination of  classic pieces. Plus, it's a rare occasion when I wear a bun. And when I wear a bun, my 3-year-olds tell me I look "fancy." So, I must have liked this outfit because of its follicle fanciness...

P.S. Have a safe and fancy new year's eve, little kitty cats!

Pink & Polka Dots

{Sweater & Jeans: Forever 21 | Blouse: Urban Outfitters | Flats: Tory Burch | Necklace: ILY Couture}

This outfit was so fun! Does anything brighten a chilly day more than a hot pink sweater and polka dots? Plus, I think it's pretty clear that I can't resist topping off any outfit with a bubble necklace!

I rarely wear pink, but I kind of feel happy when I do. They're something so girly, bubbly, and Barbie about a bright shade like this one! (Plus, those thick cable knits totally kept me cozy on a chilly day!)

Friday's Fancies: Dress Yourself!

{Heart Pin/Jacket/Shirt/Cords/Monogram/Bubble Necklace/Watch/Bracelet/Boots/Ring/Belt/Purse}

This week's Friday's Fancies theme is "Dress Yourself!" aka make up an outfit that screams "you!" Or, rather, "me!" What I didn't realize is that it would take me three weeks to put one together! I know what you're probably thinking: there's a lot going on in this outfit.Well, turns out, a lot pretty much categorizes my style! I love a lot of things: I love accessories. I love anything Native American-inspired. I love denim on denim. I love monograms. I love bubble necklaces. I love seafoam green/mint. I love Tory Burch. I love oversized menswear-style watches (And this Marc Jacobs one is my new obsession - possible birthday gift?!). And apparently, I love eclectic outfits!

And how about yourself? What screams "you!?"

Blue Blue Blue

{Shirt: Aeropostale | Belt & Skirt: Target | Necklace: ILY Couture | Flats: Tory Burch | Watch: Nordstrom}
This outfit made me happy. Royal blue is my 2nd favorite color. (Does my inner preschooler come out when I say that?) It's also probably my favorite color to wear. A royal blue buffalo check shirt? Yes. A royal blue skirt? Yes. A royal blue slide? Apparently, yes.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, a bubble necklace is the perfect addition to basically every outfit. Can I collect them in every color? Maybe. Am I going to try? Yes.
