Polka Dots + Loafers (WIN-WIN!)

{Dress + Belt: Asos | Loafers: Shoe Dazzle | Bracelets: Boutique, J. Crew, Chloe + Isabel | Watch: Nordstrom}

This is one of the most comfortable dresses ever! Even though it's long sleeved, the happy polka dots, soft stretchy fabric, and skater skirt make it the perfect summertime dress! Plus, it's affordable AND it came with this belt. Win-win!

I got these awesome loafers from Shoe Dazzle! Shoe Dazzle can be hit or miss for me; usually there is just a little something that bugs me about each style I think I like, but everything about these are fab! They're incredibly comfy, subtle from afar, and pack a real punch when you get up close and see all the spikes and bedazzling! Plus, they're about a quarter of the price of their Sam Edelman counterparts! Win-win!

Chalk up that score. Dani: 2. Dani's bank account: 2. WIN-WIN.

Blogger Feature: Olivia of Wanderlust And Such

Olivia is one of my absolute favorite blogging friends! We connected a few months ago when she was just getting ready to start her blog, Wanderlust And Such, and I'm so proud of her amazing progress! She's like my blogging little sis, and I am one proud big sister! ;)

3 words to describe your personal style?
Classic, a little bit quirky, and always evolving.

Who are your celebrity style icons?
I love Miranda Kerr for her ability to make trends look so effortless and blend in so easily with classic pieces. I admire Kiernan Shipka of Mad Men for her unique, age-appropriate style that is always classy and pretty. Lastly, I am absolutely obsessed with Jenna Lyons, creative director of J. Crew. Her ability to pair texture and print together – and always create fun, unique, clean outfits is truly inspiring.

What is your favorite item in your closet?
Practically speaking, it’s my chambray shirt. I wear it with everything. Everywhere. All the time. I’d say it’s a problem, but I refuse to associate my favorite shirt with any negative thoughts since it’s the closest thing I have to a significant other.

What would you consider the 5 essential items to a fashionable wardrobe?
1. One dress you know, 100%, looks good on you. I call this my “nothing to wear” dress – the dress you throw on when you can’t find anything else – never fails.
2. A signature piece of jewelry. I think it’s important for every girl to have one, small piece of jewelry she rarely takes off. It’s the most charming and fashionable thing. For me, it’s a simple ring I got while traveling with my family. For others, it’s a stylish watch (I do love my watch, too...).
3. A denim jacket. There are literally endless ways to style this. It can work in the summer over a flowy dress or the fall with a scarf and colored cords. Endlessly versatile!
4. A pair of heels that make you feel unstoppable. At almost 6’ tall, it took me a long, long time to appreciate the power of heels. As a lover of fashion, it was painful for me to constantly see beautiful shoes and never think I was allowed to wear them because of my height. But no matter what your height, wearing a pair of heels instantly boosts your confidence, improves your posture, and gives you that extra oomph. Do I stand out over the general population when I wear high shoes? Absolutely. But who decided that that’s a bad thing? And, besides, life is too short not to wear what I want. (See what I did there? Too SHORT? Pun? Uh-huh? Okay, stopping now.)
5. A signature pair of sunglasses. I have a few pairs – but my black Ray Ban Wayfarers are my good ole’ standby pair. A fierce pair of sunglasses ups the style of any outfit. Just don’t wear them inside, then you just look silly and I will laugh at you.

You're moving to the Netherlands this summer! How do you plan to take your fabulous style from the US to Europe?
I am! And I’m very excited about it. If anyone wants to read about some of my journey, go here. To transition my style, I’m planning on layering a lot. It’s a bit colder in Holland than it is in Florida and I’m only bringing one suitcase of clothes and shoes for four months (horrifying, I know) so I’m hoping to mix and match a lot of different pieces together. Hopefully I’ll find even more style inspiration abroad!

In your search to find your own niche in the blogosphere, who has inspired you/sent you in the right direction? Who are your favorite bloggers, and why?
A lot of people inspired me! I’ve been reading Jen Loves Kev, Kendi Everyday, and My Edit (along with the rest of the world) for years now. Kendi’s humor really inspired me to try to bring some of my personality and sarcasm to every post. But generally speaking, my favorite bloggers are people who I can see myself not only wanting to go shopping with, but wanting to be friends with as well. I contacted people like Dani before I started my blog for advice! I appreciated it so much. It’s so strange that when I first talked to Dani, I was just admiring her cute blog and style and wondering how to bring mine to the blogosphere, and now here I am…DREAMS COME TRUE, PEOPLE. What can I say, I dream big?

One trend I'm dying to try is: WEDGE SNEAKERS. They’re so out of my normal comfort zone, but then I saw Miranda Kerr wore them and I was sold.

I feel most myself when I’m wearing: a flattering and feminine dress.

Please go visit this stylish (and hilarious!) sweetheart over at Wanderlust And Such!

Sunday Song: Tommy Miller

When I saw this video posted on Facebook via a friend from high school, I was blown away! Bon Iver is my male musical spirit animal, and Skinny Love is of course one of my favorites. This cover by Tommy Miller (Helloooo, Tommy... We went to high school together. Haha.) is so good! His guitar playing is great, and his voice is so lovely and soothing. I love a good cover, and this one is definitely topping my list right now!

Valentine's Day in July?

{Blouse: Sheinside | Shorts: Forever 21 | Sandals: JustFab | Watch: Nordstrom | Bubble necklace: Cheerfully Charmed via The Weekend File giveaway | Monogram necklace: BaubleBar
Doesn't this look feel like Valentine's Day? I guess I was just full of love. Perhaps it's because I consumed my first alcoholic beverage since my surgery? I wore this earlier this week for dinner and drinks with Holly. The color of the blouse makes me happy, and I LOVE my new "blogger" bubble necklace! It took me a long time do decide if I liked these necklaces, but once I did, I was super excited to win one from Hayley's blog giveaway! Layered with my monogram necklace, it made me smile every time I looked down!

2012 Teen Choice Awards - Fashion!

Let's mark the TCAs as a show that I didn't know was on until after it was already over. I feel slightly weird insulting commenting on teens' wardrobe choices, but hey... fashion is fashion, right?

My Favorites
Kendall: Even though she's a celebrity for doing absolutely nothing, at least she's got the hook-ups to a cute wardrobe! I really like the feminine lace details at the hem and neckline of this dress! // Kylie: Holy Kardashian hair. I think the Kardashian family should come out with a haircare or extension line of some sort. They'd make billions. (Because they need more money.) Anyway, this dress is adorable and age-appropriate, which I appreciate. // Kat: I didn't know who this was (Google tells me she's on "Vampire Diaries"), but I know she dresses adorably! I don't think I would ever take that Mara Hoffman dress off if I owned it, but If I did, changing into this adorable shortsuit wouldn't be half bad, either! // Taylor: This isn't mind-blowing or anything, but Taylor looks pretty, and has chosen not to look 40 years old this time around, which is an improvement. // Victoria: Cuuuuute. The print, the high neckline, and the fun sideways high-low hem make this dress so trendy, youthful, and vibrant! // Lea: Let the clouds part and the angels sing! I finally like something Lea Michele wore! This is very flattering, errs on the side of not slutty, and the metallic detailing makes this minidress extra-special! (Also, it looks like Lea may have finally eaten something... or it's the cut of the dress; who's to say?) // Hayden: My favorite of the night! Her hair, the fit of the dress, and the sparklelicious purple are all beautiful! Usually, I'd ix-nay the matchy-matchy shoes, but something about it seems on-trend this time!

 Meh
None of these ladies look particularly awful. They just really felt "meh" to me - I was underwhelmed. Zoe: I suppose the cut of this dress(/outfit?) is cute, but the olive color is really unflattering, the graphic print is too large for her small frame, and what's with the teal shoes...? // Zooey: I hate to say it, but we get it, already, Zooey. You have vintage bangs and you wear vintage-esque dresses. Let's try something new, shall we? // Jordin: I'm making a scrunched up face looking at this. The fit is all wrong, the hemline is too short, the applique is old-fashioned and pageant-y, and the purple shoes don't match... Sorry, girl. // Debby: The print of this dress is actually pretty cool, but it's misplaced. I think if ran the pattern down the front, and put black down the sides, this could be super flattering and slimming! The neckline's a smidge high, as well. Plus, I hate cut-out shoulders. I know they're pretty in right now, but I just don't quite get it.

Huh?
Kristen: Kristen's personal choices aside (cheating bey-otch...), this outfit is pretty cute. It's casual, I like the leather pants with the casual tee, and she actually didn't look like she wanted to kill herself this night. But she has some funky braided dreads or something hanging down the side of her head which I just don't get. We know you hate life, K-Stew, but pull a comb through your hurr. // Robert: Maybe he wanted to draw attention away from his handsome face with a hideous rodeo meets bedazzler meets "I'm pretending I didn't try but I obviously did" look, but I personally prefer a look that is more classic, like his beauty. // Demi: Oy vey. In theory, I actually like this. If you get rid of the feathers. And shoulder armor. And the sheer side (/dangerously close to front) boob. Hyper-stylized much?

Bad Hair
Demi: Kim Kardashian meets Street Fighter circa '95 on crack? Eek. // Peyton: Is it wrong to judge a child's hair?

Boys Will Be Boys
Justin: Who is this chick? I think I saw her on last week's episode of "The Real L Word." // Joe: Why? I guess if he'd ditched that funky blazer or put a dressier shirt underneath it, this wouldn't be so bad. Or maybe it's the messy hair and pedophile 5'oclock shadow? You be the judge. // Kyle: I'm very confused and so is he. The shirt is... weird. The pants are feminine. Plus they don't match. Huh what?!

Dapper Dudes
Tyler: I didn't know who this was either. That's because he isn't 12 anymore. (He's the child from "Everybody Hatees Chris," FYI.) He looks so cute! Does he have a menswear style blog? He should. // Michael: Another "Vampire Diaries" star, apparently. He looks so good, too! Gotta love a man who will rock a denim vest, colored pants, AND a suede desert boot. Hellooooo, Michael. // Tyler: Simple, casual, classic. Looking good, Teen Wolf. // Ian: Yeah. This is just a t-shirt and jeans, but with that face, what else does he need? (He threw on a jacket for the actual awards show, but I couldn't tear myself away from this particularly stunning stone-cold stare.)

What do you all think? Do you agree/disagree? Who were your favorites this year? Who did I leave out?

Snakessss

{Dress: Parker via Shop Bop | Sandals: H&M via my mom's closet | Watch: Shock Boutique | Tortoise bracelet: J. Crew | Love bracelet: StyleLoveLiving | Ring: Nordstrom (gift)}

This was my first FULL DAY multi-outing post-surgery! I spent the afternoon at an Angel game with my dad (check out my hideous farmer's tan!), came home for a couple hours to rest a bit, and went out to a lovely little wine bar in Brea for my friends Sarah & Dan's engagement party. I got this dress on sale from Shop Bop with a gift certificate I won from Chasing Davies! It is so soft & silky, delicate & girly, and the soft peaches & pinks feel perfect for summertime!

I'm Alive!

{Dress: Forever 21 | Sandals: Old Navy | Watch: Nordstrom}
Please bear witness to my first excursion out since my surgery! Mom and I went down to Irvine to watch Men Alive perform "Von Trapped" - a most hilarious rendition of the Sound of Music. Since this was my first time really getting dressed/doing my hair and make-up in 10 days (!), I wanted something very comfy and easy. I haven't worn this dress since last year, but I'm happy that it's just as comfortable and flattering as always!

P.S. The winner of my 31 Bits giveaway is...

My homegirl, Jess from The In-Between! (You'll be hearing from me or 31 Bits soon, lady!)

Blogger Feature: Emmett Katherine of Hippie Lace

I've been following Em over at Hippie Lace since I started out in the blog world. We got started right about the same time, and I absolutely love her style! Nothing could describe her look better than her blog title -  the perfect mix of bohemian and chic!

3 words to describe your personal style?
Feminine, romantic and a little bit of hippie.

What is your favorite item in your closet?
My favourite is constantly changing, but right now it’s a toss-up between my Rebecca Minkoff purse (probably because it took almost a year to track down) or my Helmut Lang khaki leather button up. They’re both well made classics that go with just about anything, so it’s really hard to choose!

Where do you find inspiration for your outfits?

I find most of my fashion inspiration through blogs. I love reading lifestyle, fashion, and photography blogs written by people who are clearly passionate about what they write about.  I  also draw inspiration from celebrities like Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, Florence Welch, Kate Moss and Abbey Lee Kershaw because they all have an individual and organic way of dressing which is different from their peers.  Each of them is iconic in their own way and I would love to raid their closets!

What are some of your favorite places to shop?

Holt Renfrew, Aritiza, thrift stores, Zara and the sale racks at Anthropologie. I always find the best things in their sale room!! My favourite online shops are Planet Blue, The Trend Boutique and Free People.

My most cringe worthy fashion moment:
Outfits from the 90s when the rave scene was big. I owned a baby blue plastic jacket that I wore to death. Enough said!

I feel most myself when I’m wearing:

Dresses, skirts and a bit of lace.

Make sure you head over to Hippie Lace and say hi to Emmett!

Sunday Song: Lennon & Maisy

OH MY WORD. How cute are these girls? I watched a few of their videos awhile back and thought they were pretty amazing, but this video just sealed the deal! (Make sure you watch some more of their videos - you've got to check out these gals' guitar skills, too!) I'm still hoping that when I'm fully healed from my tonsillectomy and septotomy, I'm going to sing like Beyonce, but at this point, sounding like Lennon & Maisy would be just fine with me, too. ;)

My *Daily* Beauty Routine - Updated!

What seems like ages ago (in reality, about 5 months), I shared my daily beauty routine with all of you. Since then, with the help of Sephora, Ulta, CVS, my now lapsed subscription to Birchbox, and Michelle Money & Laura Armstrong, I have added [way too many] products to my routine and have possibly (definitely) become makeup-obsessed! I wanted to update you all on my new (and old!) faves!

Face:
  • Philosophy Hope Oil-Free SPF: I start everyday with sunscreen! I've said it before and I'll say it again, unless you're planning on locking yourself in a room with no windows and no doors, you need to wear sunscreen! Every tan and every freckle = skin damage! (If you go to the beach, pool, or desert with me, beware of my spray bottle of sunscreen - if you don't reapply, I'll reapply for you!)
  • Benefit The POREfessional: I really do think primers make a big difference. My pores aren't HUGE but they aren't tiny, and this primer (though small considering the price) goes a long way and works wonders!
  • Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer in Nude: I don't usually wear this, but on occasion if I want more coverage, I'll put this on, like one would use a foundation. I like sheer coverage, and also I'm afraid of foundation (thanks to a MAC employee recommending me a full-coverage liquid when I was 13), so this is the perfect combination. I replaced the BB Cream I was using with this, because I thought the BB Cream was too heavy, if that gives you an idea of my definition of "sheer."
  • Laura Mercier Eye Basics in Wheat: I put just 1 dot of this on each eyelid. It creates a good base for my eyeshadow and covers up any discoloration that may appear!
  • Benefit Boi-ing in 01-Light: This concealer is pretty fantastic. It may need to go a shade darker in my next order, but it REALLY covers up red, blue, purple, or any unusual color emerging from a blemish or scar.
  • Amazing Cosmetics Amazing Concealer in Light Golden: This is my "special occasion" concealer. (I know I'm ridiculous.) It literally is amazing. I a tiny bit goes a loooong way, and it's perfect for stubborn blemishes or when you want your makeup to last for a night out dancing!
  • Maybelline Fit Me Pressed Powder in 220-Natural Beige: I haven't tried any expensive "high-end" powders that work any better than this affordable one, so I stick with my cheaper version! It covers up shine well, is pretty compact (haha) to carry around, and at the great price, I don't mind if I go through it quickly!
  • Benefit Ooh La Lift: This is for dark circles under your eyes. I can't decide if it works or not. It's almost more of an illuminator than a concealer, but I'll keep using it for now until I run out, I suppose.

 Eyes:
  • Bobbi Brown Eye Shadow in Bone: This off-white shade is perfect! It's not shiny or silvery, and it gives great, smooth coverage! I wear this from my lash line to brow bone!
  • NARS Single Eye Shadow in Galapagos: I wear this in my crease. A Michelle Money recommendation, this is a pretty dark brown with gold flecks, but sometimes I feel like it isn't as blend-able as I'd like. It's quite dark, so if I get any "dusty" residue in the wrong place, it's hard to wipe off without having to re-do the whole eye! I may need to go with another brand or a slightly lighter shade. Michelle also uses the "Lola Lola" shade, but I tend to not be too satisfied with NARS products, it seems.
  • Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in ink black: I can't rave enough about this eyeliner! It is the easiest liquid to apply, stays on all day (and night, and through sleep - oops!), and wears great! I just draw a simple line on my top lid. It's easy to make it as thin or thick as you want!
  • Smashbox Limitless Eye Liner in Onyx: I don't always wear liner on my bottom lid, but when I do I use this! It stays on well and doesn't leave me with makeup under my eyes, plus it has a mini sharpener built into the lid so you never have to worry about the precision of your line!
  • Anastasia Brow Wiz in Medium Ash: I just recently started filling in my brows after watching Laura fill hers in with brow powder. I bought a brow powder, but then used my Birchbox points to buy this pencil, after watching Michelle use hers, and I like it a LOT better. It has a self-sharpening pencil on one end, and an eyebrow brush on the other. The pencil helps give a lot of control, and the brush helps to blend the pencil and brush hairs in the direction you want them to go! It's amazing how much more pulled-together filling in my eyebrows makes me look! As someone who has only gotten my eyebrows waxed 3 times in my life and is a self-tweezer, this really helps give the right shape to my eyebrows. I love it!
  • Anastasia Brow Gel in Clear: Yet another Michelle & Laura tip, I actually found this in my makeup bag randomly; I think I got it as a free sample in some goody bag! I'm imagining any eyebrow gel would do, expensive or not. I don't use this all the time, mostly just when I'm going out at night and want everything to stay in place. Think of this as hairspray for your eyebrows. Now think about how weird that sounds... (Really, though, it's a good product to tame the brows!)
  • Sephora Collection Outrageous Volume Mascara: I LOVE this mascara! I think eyelashes are kind of like the hair on your head, where once they get used to a product, it doesn't work as well. Well, my eyelashes must not be used to this, because it works WONDERS! I'm telling you, probably the closest you can get to false lashes without actually wearing false lashes! I hiiiighly recommend this one! I do my best to cover every single lash haha. Check out Michelle's tutorial.

 Cheeks:
  • Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder in Light: Bronzer. You know the deal. I just brush it in the hollows of my cheekbones towards my temples! It's a great color, and not shimmery. I went through a "no shimmer" face for a while and that's when I picked this up. I really like Bobbi Brown.
  • Bobbi Brown Blush in Pale Pink: I put a little bit of this on the apples of my cheeks. It's called pale pink, but it is anything but. It's literally neon. It looks really pretty on, but you have to be careful of not brushing it on in a harsh line. I used the top (end of bristles, not flat side) of my brush to apply it so it's not streaky or scary.
  • Too Faced Caribbean in a Compact in Snow Bunny: I used to use this a lot. In fact, I've used it so much that I've cracked multiples of this bad boy. It's a really nice, lighter shade and not too dark or unnatural. Now I only use it to brush a little shimmer atop my cheekbones. I've returned to shimmerville.

 Lips:
  • Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte Silky Sensual Radiant Lipstick in 1 - Nude Beige: I'm not a major lipstick wearer, but this is the PERFECT nude lipstick. Absolutely perfect. I'll use it for a night out, sometimes under gloss, sometimes alone. I try to use it sparingly though, because it was expensive, and also because if you go to crazy with this lipstick, it can bleed outside the edges of your lips because it's soooo silky. Yum!
  • Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss in Peach Petal: I heard about this gloss via Pinterest literally about 5 minutes after purchasing the YSL lipstick. (Oy. Holy splurge.) This much more affordable nude shade is awesome! It looks great over the lipstick (but too much causes a weird mix, almost a congealed oil-and-water-style separation or something? Yes, sounds disgusting. Kind of is. So I mostly use this on it's own for fear of alien lips haha.
  • Smashbox Lip Enhancing Gloss in Pout: I got this in a Sephora lip gloss sampler, and it's the perfect pink! I've always looked for the perfect Barbie pink lipstick (still open to recommendations!), but this lip gloss really does the trick. It's slightly sticky so it's not TOO shiny, and I really like it. (But would still love a pink lipstick recommendation!)

Tools:
  • Essence of Beauty Eye Shadow Brush: My eyeshadow brush is just some cheapo I got from CVS in a little cheapo pack of brushes. Does the trick. I have a really hard time spending a lot of money on brushes! I don't know why, since I would probably use them longer and more than any other product! Any favorites out there?
  • Too Faced Flatbuki: I got this in a bronzer sampler. I actaully really love it. I use the flat side for my bronzer and the short end for my blush! (Though I am tempted to try a fluffier brush for my blush!)
  • e.l.f. Studio Blush Brush: Do you all use e.l.f. products? You can get them at Target. They are muy inexpensivo! This brush was $3. I use it for my shimmery bronzer. Nice light, but direct coverage.
  • Tarte eyelash curler: This came in a Sephora mascara sampler, and it rocks. Honestly, any eyelash curler will do the trick! I doubt I'd splurge on an expensive one had I not gotten it in the set! I hadn't used one in a long time, but when I started to again, I couldn't believe the difference it made! Do yourself a favor - curl one eye, and then look in the mirror at the difference! Curling the lashes really opens up your eyes! (See above mascara tutorial!)

Scent:
  • Marc Jacobs Oh, Lola!: Does perfume count as "makeup?" Well, either way it's been a long time since I splurged on perfume! In elementary school, I got my first perfume. Does anyone remember the brand Fetish? I had a "solid scent" from them. Weird. In middle school, I got my first real perfume. Roxy Hula. Roxy was the bees knees in middle school, and this perfume was awesome. A fresh, Hawaiian scent with a hot pink bulb atomizer that was the bomb.com. In high school, I wore a Lacoste perfume for a short while, and then moved onto Burberry Brit. Burberry Brit was the first scent I had that wasn't the same as everyone else. Then I remember some girls in my dorm coming into my room, opening my drawers, and using it and I immediately began to hate it! THEN I moved on to Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker. I really liked that; I still have it, but now when I smell it, it smells kind of old lady to me. I spent the next few years just using Victoria's Secret Pink body splash because it's light, easy, comes in a large volume, plastic bottle, and it's cheap! BUT THEN... (long story short longer...) I decided to buy a perfume sampler from Sephora. They sent me 8 little vials to try, along with a coupon for a free bottle of whichever you like best! Hence, Oh, Lola! It's hip, fresh, slightly fruity flowery, and has a really awesome bottle. I couldn't ask for more.

Wow. That was excessive, and I'm not afraid to admit it! What are your favorite products? Are you a Sephora junkie like I am?

Wish You Were Here...

While I'm recovering from my surgeries, there is no doubt that I'm wishing I were on vacation! I decided to dream up a few looks and pretend that I am sunning myself at a tropical island. Whether you are (or dream to be) in Fiji, Hawaii, Palm Springs, or a shady chaise in your own backyard, here are a few ways to make the most of your summer wardrobe!

Vacation - Pool

Nothing says vacay like a funky caftan, if you ask me! Lounge around the pool with a fresh cocktail in hand, lay on the sunscreen (my #1 beauty tip!), and catch some rays on a cute inflatable pool raft! (By the way, isn't a vacation the perfect time to pair some bright, dangly earrings with your bathing suit? I think so!)

Vacation - Brunch/Shopping

Truth be told, most all of my vacations tend to be centered around 2 activities: shopping and eating. I also enjoy the idea of "brunch." There's something that differentiates brunch from breakfast and lunch, and in my opinion, that's what you wear! Throw on some printed denim, layer your jewelry, and add a little pep to your step with some comfy wedges, and you're good to go!

Vacation- Dinner/Dancing
I know, I know. This is sort of like a fashion blogger exploded into one outfit. Trust me, though, a vacation is the perfect time to show off your style! It's safe to assume, you will probably be the most fashionable person wherever you are, so show it off! Sometimes it's fun to pile on the trends, especially for a night out! You're on vacation, live a little, ladies!

Do you have any fun vacations planned this summer? Where is your dream destination?
