Blogger Feature: Lauren and Madison of Awkward Girls

Please welcome the lovely Lauren and Madison from Awkward Girls. Not only do they have the cutest, most eclectic, fun style, but they're seriously funny, too! Since I am roughing it through a 90-degree winter, they'll be giving you some insight into how to dress stylishly for a REAL winter! :)

Hello Daily Dani readers! We're Lauren and Madison from Awkward Girls and we're so excited Dani asked us to guest post today on her cute blog. Isn't she fabulous?
Well we were asked to talk to you about winter wear today! We both go to school in Utah where it gets fuh-reezing during the winters, so we're no strangers to bundling up. However, it's not always easy to dress well in cold weather when all you really want to do is put a million huge sweatshirts on or wear a snuggie to school. So we figured we'd give you some tips on looking fabulous in the freezing cold!
blazer, sweater, hat boots: anthro, top: f21, jeans: ross, gloves: uo
coat: flying tomatoes, top: f21, skirt: made by lauren, belt: gap, watch: seiko,
tights: icing, scarf: thrifted, boots: miz mooz via nordstrom.
Sweaters, not Sweatshirts
Trade in those baggy sweatshirts for a thick cable knit sweater. Layer it over a button up, add a statement necklace, and BAM. Done.
Headwear
Okay, you've gotten rid of that hoodie from summer camp 2003, but what if you miss the protection of a hood? Well, we love the slouchy beanie look. Or grab a scarf and tie it around your head for a cool turban look that keeps your ears warm, like what Lauren's wearing up there. But nothing really beats warm felt winter hats, like this adorable cloche!

Layer
Layering basically saves our lives in the winter. Try layering things you've never thought to put together before. Try different prints and textures. Fur and plaid. Stripes and floral. The possibilities are endless. Plus, it's a great way to revamp your wardrobe and find new uses for clothing items you've had for ages.
Invest!
We are strong believers in investment pieces. We're all about bargain shopping. We have a lot of clothes, but contrary to popular belief, we don't spend a lot of money on them. But there are certain items in our wardrobe that are worth spending some money on. For us, that's boots and coats. Find boots that are genuine leather, sturdy, and have good traction. They'll last forever.
Legwear
Tights are a girl's best friend when it starts getting really cold. Sometimes we even wear tights or leggings under pants for added warmth. You can even layer your tights and legwear for different looks. Like wearing fishnets over plain tights, or printed tights and socks. Like so:

And there you have it! Thanks again, Dani for having us!

Thanks so much, ladies, for all these wonderful tips on how to stay warm (and equally lovely!) in cold temps! I will definitely be referring to this post in my future travels! Make sure you all head over to Awkard Girls to see more fantastic looks!
