2014 Met Ball Gala Fashion

This year's Met Gala Ball was intended to honor Charles James, America's first couturier. I expected to see lots of over-the-top, perfectly fit and handcrafted pieces. The attendees did not disappoint! (Ok, well, some of them did…)

My Favorites
Amber in Giambattista Valli Haute Couture: I'm a huge fan of Amber Heard's street style, and this time around, her red carpet style rocked, too! The pattern/beading on her dress was so intricate, so I liked that she kept her hair simple, and balanced her light gold dress with darker makeup. // Victoria in Victoria Beckham: Flawless. // Leighton in Emilio Pucci: Probably my #1 favorite of the evening! Gold, drapey, beaded, beautiful! // Kate in Valentino: I guess I was liking gold tones this year! The non-illusion "illusion" neckline is lovely, and the elaborate pattern is so unique!

Blake in Gucci: I'm not usually a big formal cape fan, but this blush number is stunning. Blake did Old Hollywood right, from her silhouette to her hair to her gorgeous ruby red cocktail ring. // Michelle in Louis Vuitton: Oh, Michelle. I just love you. Feminine, original, and perfectly special. // Emma in Thakoon: Thank you, Emma, for giving us some color! Her cropped silhouette looks great, and I really like her strong brow! // Chloe Grace in Chanel: I feel like I should hate this, but I really like it. It's kind of prairie goes glam, and I'm into it.

More Likes
Kristen in Alexander Wang: Pants on the red carpet! Pants on the red carpet! Normally I might find something like this odd, but the all-black ensemble complimented by some subtle sparkle just works. I do wish she'd done her hair or makeup up a bit more, though. // Jessica in Michael Kors: I love a good print! This is much cuter than the piece Michael Kors dressed Zoe Saldana in, and Jessica Pare knows how to work a red carpet and a gorgeous frock! // Lily in Chanel Couture: This is both bold and subtle at once. A muted color palette and modest silhouette give way to a detailed pattern and ruffling technique! I love the touch of baby pink. // Hailee in Prabal Gurung: It appears that this little lady is all grown up! She looks stunning in white, and the black paneling does wonders for her figure! // Maggie in Zac Posen: It's nice to see a Zac Posen frock that isn't an over-the-top, crisp satin prom dress. I really like this demure 50s silhouette.

Claire in Oscar de la Renta: I'm a sucker for velvet, and for pink ball gown skirts! This combination is luxe, feminine, and fits like a glove! // Dita in Zac Posen: Homegirl sure knows how to rock an hourglass silhouette! Molded cups and this mermaid style are perfect for her! // Reese in Stella McCartney: More color! Thank goodness! This style feels like a departure for Reese, and it's a welcome one! Bold color, bold neckline, and beautiful as ever! // Suki in Burberry: This dress is pretty amazing. I wish she'd stuffed some chicken cutlets up top, but this heavenly ruffled skirt is very reminiscent of Carrie Bradshaw's mille feuille.

The Dapper Dudes
Ryan in Gucci: Classic, handsome, and certainly looks great on Blake Lively's arm! // Frank in Givenchy: I'm rarely a fan of white tuxedo jackets, but when it's tailored to perfection and on a handsome gentleman, how can one complain?! // Bryan in Calvin Klein: Bryan Cranston proves that great style knows no age!

Think Again
Lea in Altuzarra: Um. Just what every woman wants. 6 inches of extra, lumpy fabric around their midsection, and an ill-fitting top that makes their boobs look saggy and small. I'm grimacing. // Naomi in Givenchy Haute Couture: "Hey, everybody! Take a look at this sheer hole on my vagina!" I'm disappointed, Naomi! // Adriana in Givenchy: There's something very odd about this combination of fabrics. Leather, velvet, and… lurex? It's ill-fitting (squashed boobs + is she pregnant?) and the deep color makes the look too dark next to her hair. Not my fave. // Shailene in Rodarte: Speechless. // Lizzie in Miu Miu: WHY?! Lizzie, why?! This is ice skater gone very VERY bad. Yikes.

Halloween Came Early This Year
I know this is an extravagant event  focused on fashion, but I think these ladies may have confused the Met Gala Ball with a costume party… Sandra in Dara Lamb: Cinderella has arrived, everyone! I hope she got home before midnight! // Brie in Prada: Mars Attacks! // Kate in Dolce & Gabbana: Sexy Señorita costume?

Lupita in Prada: Tiger Lily meets Avatar meets The Little Mermaid stuck in a fish net. You go, girl. // Janelle in Tadashi Shoji: "Toro! Toro!" I actually don't mind this; it's pretty typical of Janelle Monae, but it still definitely belongs amongst this Halloween inspiration // Katie in Marchesa: Another sexy señorita? It was Cinco de Mayo...

So what do you all think? Do you agree/disagree? Who were your favorites this year? Who did I leave out?

  1. I think Kate Upton is so trashy, so her look did not surprise me one bit - I love Victoria Beckham and Emma Stone - so chic!
Katie Holmes looks like she's trying to be Belle from Beauty & the Beast, but it is not working. I'm surprised because I typically love Marchesa!

  2. I agree with ALL of these! Huge fan of Emma, Victoria, and Leighton. Did you happen to see the Olsen twins? They were the two short ones dressed like 80 year old ladies...so sad!
