2013 Met Ball Gala Fashion

I have to admit, when I heard that the theme for this year's Met Ball was punk, my mind immediately went to spiked hair, spiked clothes, and plaid. Lots and lots of plaid! I was very interested to see how the celebs turned it up, and I must admit, most didn't disappoint! (Don't worry, guys, I said most...)

Perfect Punks

Anja in Anthony Vaccarello: I just love this! Completely punk inspired, but still classy, elegant, and evening-appropriate! The popped collar on this red leather number is perfect! // Ashley in Marchesa: I don't usually like Ashley Greene's fashion choices, but something about this just struck me! Again, it's punk-inspired, yet still elegant, plus her smokey eye was super pretty! // Cameron in Stella McCartney:  Cameron often makes fashion choices that make me snooze, but the color, silhouette, and studded belt on this fun piece made me do a double-take!

Carey in Balenciaga: This is basically the epitome of punk chic! Classic LBD, tastefully strategic cut-outs, and one classic safety pin? Divine! // Chanel in J. Mendel: This dress is so fun! It reminds me of Gwen Stefani's '90s punk style with a luxurious, modern fit - this striped dress makes a statement! // Michelle in Burberry: While subdued at first glance, this beautiful LBD is super-glossy snakeskin, and the gems adorning her neck kick this simple silhouette up a notch or two! // Jessica in Giambattista Valli: It's been a long time since I've been a fan of Jessica Biel, but I've been liking her fashion choices as of very recently - I'll give JT the credit for that. ;) This is a unique silhouette, but she pulls it off well, and those tights are kinda cool - especially to take it into the punk theme!

Kate M. in Delopozo by Josep Font: THIS DRESS IS SO COOL! I've always liked Kate more than Rooney, and this night was no different! This muted eggplant/mauve shade is something special, and all that detailing on the bodice - so fun! // Kate B. in Balmain: HELLO! I love this! Firstly, I love that she went BRIGHT for evening! Kate is always a fashion stand-out, but this dress would probably be a stand-out on anyone! The color, the cut, the beading... it's everything! // Minka in Carolina Herrera: This is different than what I usually see Minka in, but I like it, anyway! I like the color, I like that she is covered neck-to-toe, but the lace keeps it feminine and not too stuffy. Plus, I mean, she's Lyla Garrety...

 Prettiest Punks
Zooey in Tommy Hilfiger: I read an article that called Zooey "unrecognizable" at the Met Gala. While I think that's going a bit overboard, it was nice to see a departure from her typical vintage looks. While this certainly isn't anywhere near punk, I like that I can see her forehead. Plus, this dress is seersucker! A seersucker gown? Someone invite me to a formal summer wedding, please! // Ashley in Topshop: I am loving the custom Topshop dresses from this night! Ashley has been making her way to the top of my style icons list (have you all seen her blog?!), and this is a perfect example of why! // Kate in Diane Von Fursternberg: Far more Greek goddess than punk, but hey - the color is beautiful, the cut is beautiful, and well, obviously, she's beautiful, too!

Am I getting Punk'd?

Maggie in Calvin Klein: Hi, boobs. She may need to reconsider her bra/puckering/silhouette choices in the future... plus, it's always a shame to me when a red dress completely blends into the red carpet... // Julianne in Balenciaga: Oh, well. The dress isn't horrible, but that peplum hits her all wrong! The waist needed to be cinched in drastically, and the bodice fits so loosely - what's up with this fitting?! // Uma in Zac Posen: Pea green. Weird bow. Too much train. Odd neckline. Sorry, Uma. Sorry, Zac. This is a miss.
Anne in Valentino: Let's be honest - I may have included Anne Hathaway here just on principal. Her (pasty) skin looks flawless, the blonde hair actually looks pretty darn great, and the dress isn't horrible. But come on, Anne, what's with the gratuitous display of boob?! I keep waiting for Anne Hathaway to come out in something chic, eat a hamburger, and be genuinely humble and just change all of minds about her. Why you gotta do me like this, girl? // Alicia in Jason Wu: This is just weird. Leather? Okay. Sequins? Could be okay. Cut-outs? Rarely okay. All 3 together? Never okay... // Nicki in Tommy Hilfiger: So. This dress isn't THAT bad. The top part fits a little weird. I just never get the opportunity to look at Nicki Minaj and NOT think: Uh, what exactly am I looking at here? Nicki, if you're gonna go weird, just go weird! Don't just cop out and ruin a Michael Kors dress while you're at it with that 'do...

So what do you all think? Do you agree/disagree? Who were your favorites this year? Who did I leave out?

  1. I watched Fashion Police and loved Stacy Kiebler's short dress...girl has legs for days! Katie Holms' dress was beautiful but wrong for the event. I love Zooey's dress too, but I don't see how it is punk. Anja looks like a sexy vampire, I kinda dig it!
