Hi Daily Dani readers! I'm Sarah from Think Twice Style and Dani asked me to do a Q&A with her today! I am so excited to answer her questions and I hope you enjoy reading!
3 words to describe your personal style?
- relaxed
- basic
- funky
These may seem like oxymorons, but I like to mix basic items with something funky to keep things interesting! Whether that is a pair of jeans and a white t-shirt and a crazy leather cuff, or a colorful dress with basic jewelry, I always like to have at least one piece that I can look down and give a mischievous smile at.
What is your favorite item in your closet?
This is such a difficult question, because I have so many favorites! I will narrow it down to two, though. First, my Christian Dior blazer. It is my favorite thrift find to date! I wear it all the time, and it's light enough to wear in the spring but warm enough to wear in the fall. Second, my mustard sweater! I found it at PacSun a few months ago and I wear it at least once a week! I hardly ever shop at PacSun, but that day I was pleasantly surprised! I am already looking for a replacement because I'm so scared I will wear this one to shreds. That will be a sad, sad day :(
Fashionably, what time period inspires you most?
I am influenced by the 1970s the most. When I used to look at my Mom's pictures from when she was a teenager and in college, all of the clothes made me drool! The huge bell bottoms, leather fringe, wooden platforms, maxi dresses, feathers, I could go on an on. As my Mom describes her jeans in high school, "My zippers didn't zip, they z." I also have an obsession with Cher which definitely coordinates with my 70s obsession! Plus, Iron Butterfly is one of my favorite bands, so even the music is exciting for me. Bottom line? I was born in the wrong decade.
Who are your favorite bloggers, and why?
Kendi of Kendi Everyday -- ALWAYS a good laugh, along with great looks that are regular-girl-but-awesome!
Karen of Where Did U Get That -- WDUGT was the first fashion blog I stumbled upon and I instantly fell in love! I just want to raid her closet and be her bff.
Elaine of Clothed Much -- Love, just love.
Yen of My Edit -- So so so funny with a side of beautiful silk thrifted shirts.
Seth, Cam, and Jeff of The Midwestyle -- I wish more guys dressed like this. Plus I actually understand all of their literary references and laugh (out loud) at their jokes.
As a student/young professional, how do you find a balance between fashion and comfort/professionalism/appropriateness?
I must say that it is difficult for me to balance looking professional while still being a student. When I am in class, I doesn't matter what I wear, but it still speaks to who I am and my Professors' opinion of me. When I am teaching in the classroom, I have a dress code set by my University and the host school. I try to not stick to polos and khakis every day, though. I only did that once last semester, but I wasn't feeling well so I rationalized.
It is also difficult with me still being mistaken for a student many times. I sometimes have to dress a little bit "older" so I look more like an authority figure, when I would rather be wearing my Charlie Brown tee so my students know I'm awesome. However, if you need someone to volunteer to wear a bow tie or a cardboard airplane to teach, I'm your girl! I am also not opposed to rapping or doing an interpretive dance for learning purposes.
Great feature, I love Sarah's blog so it was interesting to read these answers! Can't wait to check out her blog suggestions!
