Sunday Song: Tilly & the Wall

And if I could reverse it, I don't think that it'd be worth it, cause I know in my heart I would never let you tumble to the ground.

I fell in love with Tilly & the Wall when I saw them open for Rilo Kiley at the Glass House in Pomona my senior year of high school! All of their songs were just super happy and catchy. They were fantastic and I went home and bought the CD immediately! Coolest part? That's not drumming you hear... it's tap dancing!

(My friends and I performed this at "Java Night" - aka our school's version of a little open mic night - our senior year, maracas and tambourines in hand... I will now be frantically searching for video recording of this night!)

Friday's Fancies: Pretty in Pastels

{sweater / flats / jeans / necklace / purse}
This week's Friday's Fancies theme is pastels! I used to loathe pastels, but as I've grown up, I've grown from viewing them as little girl/babyish into thinking of them as simply delicate and feminine. By pairing lovely pastels (lavender, baby pink, & mellow yellow) with a deeper anchor piece (like these oxblood jeans!) and a striking accessory (like this tough, Aztec-inspired pendant), and you're good to go, in a grown-up way!

How do you feel about pastels?

Sporty Chic

{dress: custom-made by rock n reconstruct | jacket: target | boots: sam edelman | watch: nordstrom}
So, I've been talking a lot about sporty chic lately, and here is yet another example of how I attempt to pull off sporty chic! I went to a Ducks game on Monday, and I finally got to break out my DUCKS DRESS! I've had this for quite awhile, but haven't gotten the chance to wear it yet! I only went to 2 Ducks games last season, and with the NHL lockout... Ok, sorry, I think I've lost all you fashion gals. ;)

ANYWAY! I love this dress - it's such a fun, sassy way to show some team spirit without sacrificing style! (And I didn't even freeze at the hockey rink! Phew!)

Stripes & Bows

{sweater: forever 21 | leggings: old navy | flats: brooks brothers | necklace: spring street via nordstrom}
Confession: I kind of forgot about these beautiful, dainty flats. :( I bought them for (and wore them on) Christmas, put them back in their pretty little box, and forgot about them until I recently shelved all of my shoes! I know they're pretty neutral, but I just wasn't quite sure of what to pair them with this time around, so I went with a classic - neutral stripes!

Do you all have any ideas of how I can style these flats?

Pastel Florals for a Blogger Meet-Up!

{sweater: nordstrom | blouse: american apparel | jeans: justfab | boots: sam edelman | necklace: very jane}
Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting up with Elle of Living in Color (again!), Andrea of Left Brain, Right Brain, Pug Brain, and Emily of A Devine Life! We had a blast! We spent 3 and a half hours gabbing about all things life, fashion, and pet-related! ;) I can't wait to see these lovely ladies again soon!

My Uniform

{blazer & necklace (gift from chelsea!): forever 21 | tee (gift from sarah!): jolie & elizabeth | jeans: seven for all mankind | flats: target | bracelets: chloe & isabel}
A couple weeks ago when I wore a similar blazer & tee combo, Sarah told me that this was my "uniform!" To quote her exactly, "This outfit is so *you* to me! Basic tee, skinnies, cute flats, and a good blazer. If you are ever wondering what your uniform is, this is it, Dan!" So, she got me thinking... and she's right! I feel most comfortable lately in some form of a graphic tee and blazer! (This black blazer is my favorite!) I mixed it up this time by adding boyfriend jeans and a peep-toe, but I think the basic feel is the same!

How about you guys? What is your "uniform?"

Sunday Song: fun.

I used to run at first sight of the sun; Now I lay here waiting for you to wake up.

I fell in love with this song the second I heard it over the credits of the GIRLS finale. It felt uplifting after I cried through the last 10 minutes of the episode. (I cry at almost every tv show or movie I watch, but this one deserved it!) The episode made me feel a lot of sad and confused feelings, but at least there was a Louisa Mae Alcott reference.

Friday's Fancies: Spring Has Sprung!

{hat (similar) / sandals / watch / dress / necklace / tote}
This week's Friday's Fancies theme is Spring has Sprung!, and nothing says spring to me like florals, delicate sandals, and a brimmed hat to shade your face from the embarking warm sunshine! Throw in a pearl collar and a bright (but classic and colorblocked) beach tote, and you're all set!

Stars on Stars / Print on Print

{sweater: asos | blouse: romwe | jeans: urban outfitters | flats: tory burch | necklace: forever 21}
Yay, stars! I wore this sweater on my birthday but haven't worn it since! When I decided to pull this bad boy out again for the chillier days we've been getting around these parts, I knew I wanted to keep it classic black & white and layer it with another top, and then I remembered this star print blouse! I love a print on print look just as much as I like print mixing! As long as you keep your colors similar and keep your print scale balanced, print on print is a fun and easy way to add a little interest to your ensemble!

Here are some more ways you can make print on print work for you!

{necklace | clutch | sweater | heels | jeans}

{sweater | necklace | platforms | skirt}

{blazer | shirt (similar) | tote | watch | booties | skirt}

What do you think? Are you willing to give print on print a try?

Brights + Neutrals

{dress: modcloth | jacket: nordstrom | sneakers: converse | necklace: etsy |
Despite what appears to be 6:30am misery on my face (thank you, Daylight Savings...), I really liked this outfit! I paired bright red with bright yellow, and then balanced it all out with some neutral army green, black leather, and white sneaks. It's also possible that this dress is actually supposed to be a shirt/tunic, but hey, I'm 5'2" and I'll take what I can get.

Dainty Collar

{sweatshirt: forever 21 | shirt (collar): asos | cords: urban outfitters | sneakers: converse | watch: nordstrom}
This dainty little crocheted doily of a collar belongs to a sheer, daisy-printed peplum tank that I got over the summer. After purchasing, I realized peplums aren't quite the right silhouette for my body, but something told me not to get rid of the tank - and now I know why! I randomly decided to throw the tank on underneath my favorite super-soft sweatshirt. I wanted to add a feminine touch to an otherwise less-than-feminine outfit. Another dose of sporty chic, no?
