Modern Librarian?

{Blouse: Elizabeth & James via eBay | Jeans: Hudson | Sandals: JustFab | Bracelets: Vintage (Mom & Aunt) | Rings: Mexico & Vintage (Aunt)

I wore this out for a Sunday Funday night in downtown Huntington Beach with my best friend Holly. I wore this, and she wore a blouse + cardigan. And we looked like a couple of librarians. And we were a big hit!

I must say, I will have to chalk this up as one of my proudest eBay purchases. This Elizabeth & James blouse retailed for about $260, and I found it on eBay for $50! And it's perfect!

I'm also very happy with these shoes that I got from Just Fab! I've talked about the "shoe of the month club" type sites before, and this pair is one of my favorites that I've gotten! I even got them for half off with a special deal - isn't this particular outfit so economical? All of the straps are stretchy elastic, and they are super comfortable! I love that they're kind of a modern take on the gladiator sandal.

OH HAI, Daily Dani friends! I'm Monkeyface from Hello, Monkeyface! just dropping in to say HEY. WHAT'S UP. You get the idea. So yeah, this is me, wearing clothes, but secretly wishing I were in my robe and slippies. Essentially you are seeing the I-CAN-go-out-in-public-like-this version of what I wear nonstop around the house, which is a giant robe and soft cushiony purple slippers that look almost exactly like these flats. I would have taken a picture of said robe and slippies to give you a side-by-side comparison, but as you might have already gathered from the fact that I have talked a lot already about not really getting dressed, I am what the French call "lay-ZEE." Also like the French, I may have been too busy wining and cheesing to take oh-so blasé pictures of the glorified pajamas no one is supposed to see me in anyway. No, eff it, let's be honest - it's really just the lazy thing. Pardon my French.

FBFF - On time!

Lookie here, kids! (You know, I may need a cute nickname for my readers. Bekah calls her readers "chickens." What do you think about that, my little baby dinos?) I'm finally doing a Modly Chic Fashion Beauty Friend Friday post on time, thanks to blogger scheduling! This week's theme? Hair!

1. How often do you get your hair cut?

I try to get my hair cut every 6-8 weeks. For awhile, I was going way too long without cuts, which resulted in way too many inches getting cut off due to split ends!

2. Do you go to the same stylist each time, try someone new, go to the cheap hair cutting chains or live it up in a salon?
I've been going to my awesome stylist Jessica for almost 7 years now! I first saw her the day before my high school senior portraits, with over-bleached, over-straightened, over-processed hair that was ready to break off at the root! Jessica has nursed my hair back to life; it is now healthy and I have finally learned how to manage it! She always gives me a great cut or color, no matter what! To top it off, she's pretty radical, too.

3. Do you color your hair? How often? What’s your natural color?
 A woman never tells! Good thing I have no regard for social decency. I do (very obviously, I think haha) color my hair. I used to color it very regularly, every 6-8 weeks. Then I started in on this "ombre" look, a la Rachel Bilson and Drew Barrymore. I'm becoming a bit uneasy about as it gets to looking much darker. I was born with black hair (weird, I know!), but it quickly changed to blonde, and it has a dark blonde/light brown as I got older. I think I'm a blonde girl at heart, and I may need to lighten up again soon!

4. The one thing you always do to keep your hair looking great is:
CONDITION CONDITION CONDITION!

5. What hair trend do you love and wish you could rock?
The Michelle Williams short 'do! I've also recently been super into Ginnifer Goodwin's short locks, too. (Maybe one day I'll be brave enough to give it a try!)

Cheetahhhh

{Sweater: Nordstrom | Scarf: Lulu's | Shorts: Fashion Young | Shoes: Forever 21}

Have I mentioned that I love leopard/cheetah print? This scarf just makes me happy!

I've had these shoesies for about 3 years, I think, but today was the first time I've ever worn them! Turns out, they really hurt my feet. I had to take them off after wearing them for about 4 hours and walked around work barefoot. I stepped in peas. Ew.

These jean shorts used to be a very bizarre pair of oversized denim palazzo capris with a thick hem. And I actually used to wear them. Hopefully what I've turned them into can salvage the damage I did to my style by wearing them in their original form.

Juxtaposition.

{Sweater: Luna | Pants: Nordstrom | Moccasins: Minnetonka | Flower pins: bando}

Here I go again, juxtaposing girly with more utilitarian. And here I go again, using a form of the word juxtapose. I need to remember to use that word more often. Just say it out loud: jux-ta-pose. Beautiful.

Fluffernutter

{Vest: Urban Outfitters | Sweater: Nordstrom | Leggings: Target | Boots: Chinese Laundry}
I wore this last week when the So Cal chill began to set in. Why didn't I post it? Well, on the day that I wore it, the mom of the kids I was babysitting told me I looked "avant garde." I am 100% positive that this was not a compliment.

Blogger Feature: Rebecca of RebeccawithanR

Hi Daily Dani readers! I'm so happy to be here with you guys today. I'm Rebecca from RebeccawithanR. Dani asked me a few questions that took me forever to answer! (I'm terrible at defining my own style. Does anyone else have that problem?)

3 words to describe your personal style?
A weird mess of classic, boho, and vintage (inspired).

Who are your celebrity style icons?
Both Olivia Palermo and the Olsens often wear inspiring outfits that translate to something that seems very wearable for me. Olivia is a master of classic and simple looks while the Olsens layer beautiful and make something shapeless look fabulous.

{Source: Who What Wear}

{Source: ShinyStyle}

What is your most meaningful item of jewelry?
The one most meaningful piece of jewelry is my wedding ring. I knew exactly what I wanted, simple, classic (see a running theme here?). So I chose a solitaire engagement ring and a pave diamond wedding band. I've been married for almost a year and I still catch myself staring at it. I love it almost as much as I love the man who gave it to me.

What would you consider the 5 essential items to a fashionable wardrobe?
My number 1 essential item would be a chambray shirt. Right now some other essentials for me are a full midi skirt, wedge platform heels, a neutral colored pleated/sheer skirt, and floral tops!

What is your go-to, never-fail outfit?
Rolled skinny jeans, layers on top, booties or platforms.

Fashionably, what tv shows and movies have inspired you most?
My favorite show in the world happens to have the most amount of clothing I would love to wear. Chuck, from Pushing Daisies, always looks fabulously girly in 50's style dresses, accessorizes perfectly, and wears bold colors. I would wear her entire wardrobe.

Since I don't have that fabulous wardrobe, I have to work with what I got. Visit me here or here!

Bright Lights Chambray City

{Shirt: Target | Pants: American Eagle | Moccasins: Minnetonka | Headband: H&M}

I like to think that this is the kind of outfit Kendi would wear... if she shrunk half a foot, couldn't wear heels to work, and forgot to iron her clothes. Either way, I really liked this outfit today!

I'm really wishing my "salmon pants" were a little more tailored, but these will do for now! They've lasted me for the past 8 years, so I really can't complain!

I'm so glad I ended up with a proper fitting chambray shirt that I actually like. It's totally a new wardrobe staple!

I think this outfit would have looked perfect with wedges, but wedges and 4-year-olds don't really mix, so my favorite moccasins will have to do!

Add in an accessory that combines 2 of my favorite things - leopard print & sparkles - and my outfit felt complete! :)

May showers

{Sweater: Foreign Exchange | Pants: Urban Outfitters | Shoes: Toms}

I wore this yesterday before our random May showers hit! That's right - it's pouring rain in the OC in the middle of May! In the wise words of Michelle Tanner: "How rude!"

I've had this cardigan for about a year and never worn it - I could never figure out exactly how to style it! I decided that because there's so much adornment and embellishment on it, to just keep everything else neutral and simple, and I think it worked!

Rain, rain, go away. Come again another day - and preferably on a day when I can sleep in, rather than hang out inside for a few hours with a bunch of wild 3-year-olds! Whew!

Blogger Feature: Bekah of Matters of Merrymaking

Hello to my dear Daily Dani readers! I am Bekah of Matters of Merrymaking, my little corner of blogger land where I share my daily style, sarcastic opinions on various topics, and my current favorite margarita flavor! (This week it's raspberry!) My B-BFF (BLOGGER BFF, duh!) Dani and I decided to do a blog swap, and boy... it feels nice and warm here on the West Coast! :)

On today's menu, we have me and Dani styling our similar long tank tops and answering a variety of questions we asked one another. I sense that the suspense is killing you, so here we go:

{Leggings: LB | Shoes: Groove | Top: LB | Cardigan: Old Navy | Clutch: Vintage}

Since Day ONE, I have loved this tank... the print, the cut, the fabric. I rocked it around the clock around Christmas time. You can dress it up or down, and I love that possibility in a top. I've even tucked it in a skirt, like here.

My new shoes are probably my favorite. I wish I could wear them everyday, but I don't think they're super practical for a kindergarten teacher. My mother's friend just gifted me her collection of vintage clutches, including this one. I am so excited about them, they're 70s funky fun!

Here are the questions Miss Dani asked me:

DANI: 3 words to describe your personal style?
BEKAH: Colorful, Eclectic, & Real.

D: You're a big Grizzlies fan - how do you keep your look fashionable but still comfortable and spirited while enjoying a good game?
B: Oh my, good question. I know that girls who wear heels to a sporting event get a bad rep from avid fans. And I admit, I may have done it once or twice. I mean, I AM from the South. However, I am all about team spirit, and I definitely do it in my own way! But no, you won't catch me in tennis shoes.

D: What is your most meaningful item of jewelry?
B: Definitely would be my high school graduation present from my grandmother. It was the most expensive thing that had ever been bought for me, and I will cherish it forever and hopefully one day pass it on to my own daughter, or niece, for her graduation. it is a huge ring made of mother of pearl and metal detailing. Love love it.

D: What is your go-to, never-fail casual outfit? "Formal" outfit?
B: For casual, it is DEFINITELY my rainy day outfits. If I know I need to be comfortable and cool, I go for a boyfriend tee. You can do anything you want to do to it, as far as jewelry or accessories. I love the casual chic look of the turban headband. On the formal side of things, I definitely reach for a dress. I have a vast collection of dresses for all seasons, and the experiment of making them different every time is the best part. If you told me I had to get dressed formally RIGHT NOW, I'd grab my purple pleated dress, Nine West wedges, and a chunky statement necklace.

D:Who are your favorite bloggers, and why?
B:My list is by no means extensive, but more like a list of ladies I love because of the personal, blogging relationships I have built with them... I look forward to checking their blogs everyday! In addition to great style, they all have unique personalities. Be sure to check them out!

Becks from Oomph
Kimberley from Fashion Momma
Elle from Joy, etc
Erin from Moms Have Style Too!
Melissa from Write It In Lipstick

D:How do you plan to take your fabulous style from college life into the "real world?" (Assuming you consider 3-year-olds who eat glue the real world, as I do!)
B: I think I will have a few more dress code restrictions, as I am working in a school environment. Less short dresses, more pants. I think it will be a different style journey, and I am excited about it. The good news is that my cardigan obsession is not going anywhere :)

I want to thank the lovely Dani for inviting me to switch blogs with her for today and all of you guys for reading! It has been such a blast! Be sure to check out my blog, Matters of Merrymaking, to see Dani's outfit and MY questions for her.

xoxo BEKAH

Rawr

{Top: Foreign Exchange | Jeans: Frankie B | Boots: Steve Madden | Beanie: Luna | Necklace: Juicy Couture | Rings: Vintage, Nordstrom, Insanely Sweet etsy shop | Purse: F21}

This outfit makes me happy, and here's why:

I love this top! I saw a similar one on Luna's Facebook page, but it sold out before I could get my hands on it, so I was super excited when I found it on the Foreign Exchange website! I'm a sucker for absolutely anything leopard print, and this top is no exception - I think it's perfect!

I found this beanie for $6 on sale at Luna, and I think it's perfect with the bow and pearl details!

I fondly refer to these suede wedge platforms as my "tranny boots," and I love when I get the opportunity to wear them, considering they're just not work appropriate for peeling glue off of kids' fingers and wiping paint off of their faces. ;)

And check out that Barbie ring! I discovered it through a random search on etsy on the Insanely Sweet shop. Oh my goodness, she has some to-die-for pieces! They remind me of Tarina Tarantino, only even more fun and funky, not to mention totally affordable!

In other news, I'm watching Matilda.
