2012 Met Ball Gala - Fashion!

This is my favorite kind of celebrity event - the kind that doesn't involve having to watch a 3+-hour show, but really is all about the fashion! I enjoyed surfing the web for the amazing fashion from last night - and I wasn't disappointed! I found so many fantastic looks! Here's what I thought of it all:

The Best
Jessica: Wow. This is how you do floor-length sequins! Safe to say, there are few ways to pull off this much glam and fewer people still who could do it, but Jessica Pare absolutely wows in this perfectly-cut gilded look! // Cate: Definitely my favorite of the night! Cate continues her reign as of a fabulously dressed woman. As always, she looks sophisticated with a gorgeous, unique twist. Has there ever been a more stunning way to dip yourself in feathers? // Debra: I liked this instantly. It's hard to do a such an extreme plunging neckline tastefully, but Debra Messing does it well! Not only is this flattering, but it's lovely and age-appropriate as well! // Emma R: It's nice to see a young woman in a popular trend, so I'm digging this peplum! Plus, I love a unique color choice! This dress is reminiscent of the yellow dress that Michelle Williams wore a few years ago. If Michelle Williams is doing it, how could you go wrong doing the same? //  Heidi: Heidi actually makes sheer lace look classy with this number. It's nice to see Heidi Klum looking understated, rather than like a sparkling Christmas ornament. She looks perfect in navy! // Kristen: This is absolutely sweet and demure, but the great color choice makes a great statement! Now, let's picture her wearing this same dress on an airplane... // Diane: Let's all take a moment to bow down to Diane Kruger, as she is her own stylist! I love her street style, and I don't think we get to see her dressed up enough! But WOW! She looks phenomenal in this stunning purple and perfectly extravagant feather trim!// Dree: I seriously love that this dress is by TopShop. It's so unique, perfectly styled, and I wish I owned it! // Emma S: I mean, really, is Emma Stone not the cutest person alive? Gosh. She looks like she's going to a tea party, and that is one tea party I'd love to attend.

The Worst
Kristen: Well. At least it fits well? And she's sort-of half-smiling? I don't get this print, and I don't get this color-blocking. It all just looks mismatched. And her shoes look like bobby socks. And she didn't brush (or wash?) her hair? She confuses me, but she usually does. (I've never seen a famous person who hates being famous more than Kristen Stewart!) // Shailene: Here she goes again... Keeping in tradition with her Oscar and and SAG looks, Shailene went with a strangely age-inappropriate (is she 70?) look, in an odd and obnoxious print. Why? // Elizabeth: This makes me so sad. Elizabeth Banks has been looking bomb.com lately at all of the Hunger Games premieres and promo events, but this just didn't work for me. I get that it's a costume event, but this is way too costume-y for me. Someone may need to remind her that she's not Effie Trinket in real life... // Jessica: This dress is basically part Catherine Zeta-Jones in Zorro and part Victorian undergarment. And then '40s hair? More confusion...

Get it together, ladies!
Beyonce: How could she do this to us? She gets her bangin' body back basically seconds after having baby Blue, and then forces us to look at the entire thing in a way too sheer (and way too ugly) dress? Why, B? Why? // Anja: I'm not even going to sugar-coat this here. This is disgusting! Reminiscent of Anne V at the Grammys, this outfit is lacking not only underwear, but also class, tact, taste, and any general sense of appropriateness. Sigh. // Lea: She looks fine in this, I guess. I think I'm just not a fan of Lea Michele, and I still think she is a style schizo. The extremely reflective shine, low V, and skin-tight cut are just err too far on the side of trashy for my taste. // Gwyneth: This makes me sad. I love me some Goop, but my friend needs to lower that hemline and cover her side boob! We all know she is in AMAZING shape, but she needs not only be more occasion appropriate here, but also remember that she's in her 40s!

Huh?!
I didn't find any of these outfits particularly offensive, but I don't get this near-black lip. What is that? At least Kate's matched her look, and Lana tends to have an alternative style, so the lip isn't completely off for them. But What is Camilla doing? This lip aged her instantly. I'm very confused, again.

The Men
If Justin and Tom aren't a walking Tom Ford ad, I don't know who else would be! Who knew a bow-tie could make an incredibly attractive man that much more dapper? Dreamy...

The Couples
Daniel & Rose: CUTE! They are so cute. Daniel looks handsome and happy, and Rose is the perfect arm candy in her simple, yet adorable dress! // Will & Amy: One of my couple crushes. I equally want to marry Will and be Amy's best friend. Contradictory, I know, but the truth nonetheless. They both look fantastic. Amy's dress is similar to Cate Blanchett's, with a trendy peplum and figure-flattering silhouette! // Ben & Christine: I love how subdued, yet classic, sophisticated, and completely occasion-appropriate they look! // Zac & Amber: If you are lucky enough to be escorted to the Met Ball by a designer, you can only hope that you look this fantastic together! Holy cow! She looks bananas, as always. The color, cut, EVERYTHING is absolutely smashing on her! And let's not ignore Zac's precious velvet jacket and complimenting purple hues!

I should hate these - but they're just too good!
These are some of my favorite looks from the night! I have a feeling that a lot of them are going to get flack from the various media "Fashion Police," but there is something about these odd prints and cuts that I am in love with! Lily: This is prairie-chic-sister-wife gone TOTALLY RIGHT. Lily seems to have a fondness for over-the-top dresses, and this sweet look totally worked for her. I love that it is demure, as it is floor length with long sleeves and a nigh neck, yet still alluring due to the sheer fabric. I love this! // Sarah Jessica: Love of my fashion life, SJP can basically do no wrong in my eyes. Very similar to Lily's dress, I think it's super dreamy. Someone please send me in the direction of a long-sleeved floral maxi dress! // Victoria: CUTE! I have a feeling this will be critiqued for being a bit "too much" with the floral appliques, layers of tulle, and lace, but something about this just works! I love that as a young star, she is taking risks and having FUN with her look! // M.I.A.: If we can ignore her hair (nearly impossible, I know), you can see how cute this skirt suit is! Another star going for the peplum trend, this outfit is super modern, pretty, and fun! Plus, she has the prettiest shade of pink lipstick on! // Bianca: Ok, I'll admit it. This look is totally weird. But I am absolutely drawn to the head-to-toe glitz and glam!

So what do you all think? Do you agree/disagree? Who were your favorites this year? Who did I leave out?

  2. Yikes, it seemed like there was a lot more bad fashion than good! I don't understand why so many of them looked like hookers and the goth lip is really weird. At least Justin Timberlake always looks good in his tux :) Thanks for the roundup!

  3. Lily Collins was my favorite! I want to wear that dress every day and dance in a field of daises.
