Blogger Feature: Jess of Heart in the Middle

I'm so excited to be feature Jess of Heart in the Middle today! I "met" Jess early on in my blogging endeavor through a mixed CD swap, when shew as blogging over at Better With Tights, and we've kept in contact ever since! Now she's started a new blog, and I'm for her to grace my blog today!

3 words to describe your personal style?
Classic, vibrant, and playful

Where do you find inspiration for your outfits?
I typically find inspiration for my outfits in magazines, other blogs, and through random people I see out in public. Lucky is my favorite fashion magazine. I have been an avid reader since its first issue was released. I feel it has more practical outfit options than magazines such a Vogue. I know some people find inspiration for an outfit through a painting or through a picture but I typically don't think that abstractly. Although, I do sometimes get ideas for color combinations I liked to try in through those means.

As a student/young professional, how do you find a balance between fashion and comfort/professionalism/appropriateness?
I am extremely lucky with the dress code my job allows. It is a casual environment. I am allowed to wear jeans, which is great. Although with such a casual dress code I can get lazy in how I dress. Throwing on a blouse with jeans and a pair of flats isn't terribly creative so it seems that if the dress code was more strict I might be forced to get a little more creative. I know that eventually I will get a job that will require me to dress in typical business attire. Hopefully when that day arrives I will be able to dress as smart and fashionable as  Liz from 26 and Counting. As far as school goes, I am not on campus a lot anymore so having to be comfortable while walking around isn't something I really have to consider now. Although I am less likely to wear heels on the nights I have class because I know I will have to walk further in them.

Who are your favorite bloggers, and why?
Although I am sure this is an answer you get a lot, I have to say Kendi from Kendi Everyday is one of my favorite blogger. Her blog is the first style blog I read and her "30 For 30" feature is the reason I started blogging my own outfits. Another favorite is Jentine from My Edit. She always seems to find the most amazing items in vintage and thrift stores, which makes me extremely envious of her closet. I also always love Sarah's outfits from Wearing It On My Sleeves. She always looks chic and ladylike which is not a look I have mastered. Plus she has a recurring feature in which she transforms a truly unwearable item into something stylish.

One trend I'm dying to try is:  I really want to try the "kris kross" look aka wearing a cardigan backwards. I really like the way other bloggers have worn this trend and would really like to try it.

My most cringe worthy fashion moment: Is it weird to say capri pants? It technically isn't one particular fashion moment but I used to wear the heck out of capri pants because I was embarrassed to wear shorts. Capri pants that have a little flare on the end are hideous on me. Not at all flattering. Now, I am not referring to cropped pants or jeans only capri pants.

I feel most myself when I’m wearing:  skinny jeans, flats or Toms, a blouse, and an infinity scarf. For some reason, I feel more secure when I am wearing a scarf. It has became a security blanket for me in a way. I feel less exposed. Is that weird? Yes, that is weird.

Go check out Jess's blog, Heart in the Middle, and stay tuned for some great future blog posts from her!
