Hey everyone! Check out my Q&A with the lovely Kelsey of snappy casual! I've been a major fan of Kelsey and her blogs since before I began blogging! Not only does she have adorable style and such fun copy to read, she is one of the sweetest girls ever!
3 words to describe your personal style?
Low-maintenance yet unexpected
What would you consider the 5 essential items to a fashionable wardrobe?
For my closet (and body) in particular:
- Skinny jeans (or jeggings)
- A blazer
- A comfortable T-shirt (plain or graphic)
- A dress that can be styled for an easy summer day or for a party
- Wedge sandals (my legs look so much better in heels!)
What is your favorite/most versatile accessory?
The most versatile accessory for me are waist belts. I have 10, but would you believe that when I started my blog I had zero? I didn't even know people wore belts like that--which is one of my favorite things to do now. I am currently shopping for the perfect wide waist belt...
>> And, my favorite accessories are fake glasses, headbands and hats. They totally make a normal outfit feel more like a costume--in a good way! :)
I love how you and your hubby are in the whole blogging/style thing together. How does his support lend to your overall fashion sense?
I love creating an outfit and then hearing Eric's reaction. I have told him many times that I'm so lucky that he'll go out in public with me when I'm wearing a crazy outfit. Sometimes I wear things that are too wild for his tastes, but other times I won't be quite sure about trying something and he'll encourage me. Actually, a lot of times I let him choose which shoes, necklace and belt I should wear so we can get out the door faster. Of course, I push his fashion limits, too. He's evolved so much this summer...it's been fun to watch.
One of your claims to fame is that you have a $10 a week clothing budget. What's funny is I would never even know if you hadn't told us! What are some of the major challenges in this, and what are your tips to working against them?
I've learned that you can read magazines and fashion blogs and either 1. get discouraged or 2. be inspired. So I shop for inspiration more often than I shop for new clothes. And I really think about every purchase I make. Is this a dream item I can’t pass up? Does it fit my body extremely well? Will it help me stand out? Basically, I don’t buy things I don’t love.
Some things that have helped me tremendously are Kendi's 30 for 30 challenge and steps for a working closet. After each remix, I purge items from my closet and make needs and wants lists so I am a smarter shopper. I am frequently reminding myself that a simpler, edited closet has many benefits.
To save money, I suggest DIY and restyle projects (making jeans into shorts or a T-shirt into a necklace), considering secondhand from friends, garage sales or thrift stores, and browsing sale racks first!
Make sure you check out Kelsey's blogs, snappy casual and Words of Williams! P.S. Make sure you wish her a big congratulations, as we all just found out she's expecting a cute little baby come Spring! <3
thanks so much for the feature, dani!
